Use the work area bar to define the segment you want to export."In the Export Settings dialog box, specify the Source Range of the sequence
or clip you want to export. Drag the handles on the work area bar.
Then click the Set In Point button and Set Out Point button."Workflow for exporting video and audio files

Stanley Arthur May 30, 2011 10:20 AM (in response to nefl777)Here's a little screenr video I made to help you out. I hope it answers your question. It's one way of handling it. There's another way that I'll also demonstrate for you.

Stanley Arthur May 30, 2011 10:29 AM (in response to nefl777)Alrighty nefl777, here's another way of doing almost the same thing. This method is quickest/easiest, if you don't need to use the exported clip in another project.

nefl777 May 30, 2011 10:39 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)Stanley, you absolutely ROCK ! I can't tell you how much this has helped.
just can't.
I am so amazed by your tutorials. I also saw a few shortcuts that I was not aware of. There are many drag/drop, tricks etc that are so hard to learn and you showed me some new tricks. I have been working with CS5 about 1 month, previously used other software for about 10 years now so I'm not completely clueless but again, it's these little tricks, menus, pulldowns etc that make a person able to accomplish what they are trying to do!
This answered my problem COMPLETELY and I so appreciate your expertise!!
you've created a fan!

nefl777 May 30, 2011 10:56 AM (in response to Stanley Arthur)hi, trying to go thru these instructions and ran into a problem at the part where I "control click on the clip" and "drag onto the project folder.
I'm on a mac. do you think the 'control' cmd should be something else?
When I "control click on the clip" and "drag onto the project folder, a dialogue box comes up and asks info about my new "sequence" like what HDV settings etc. is that wrong ?

8. Re: how to grab only audio track then separate each channel for use.
Bill Hunt May 30, 2011 11:05 AM (in response to nefl777)For most operations, Ctrl (PC) = Cmd (Command on a Mac), and Alt (PC) = Option (on a Mac).
To get JUST the Audio stream from your Timeline, on a PC, you would Alt+click on the Audio, and drag. It should work with Option+click on the Audio, and drag, on the Mac. Try those Mac keyboard combos, and let us know if that works, per Stanley's tutorials.
If that does not work (translating the PC keyboard shortcuts to the Mac keyboard), then consult the Help Files for Select.
Good luck,
Hunt

9. Re: how to grab only audio track then separate each channel for use.
nefl777 May 30, 2011 12:41 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Hi guys, wow have I been going around in circles this afternoon. First, here are the keyboard things I found on my Mac:
NO cmds I used would grab just the single clip, it brought in all 2 GB of the sequence into the media browser. so that means CMD, 'OPTION', 'CONTROL'. none of them would grab just the clip. so I created a new project, imported the .mpeg of the corrrect footage and created a new sequence of just that 2 minute part.
From there I followed that tutorial to export it (using Work area), import it, and apply the 'fill right' effects.
the only difference in my operations from Stan Arthur is that when I did the 'export' it took as a default AIF. (this is the puzzling part.. did it really just grab audio I don't know it ? )
bottom line; I now have an AIF file that is the audio I wanted. what a hassle!!
thanks to all who tried to help me and offer ideas.
Last questions; what commands allow you to manipulate those little handles that designate the work area on the timeline ? Like, are there cmds to say "set work area to entire sequence" ? I would like to know how to 'unset' those little handles once I start dragging them around a very long sequence.
THANKS !

10. Re: how to grab only audio track then separate each channel for use.
Stanley Arthur May 30, 2011 12:48 PM (in response to nefl777)The only work area shortcut that I'm aware of is that double-clicking on the work area bar will reset the work area to cover the entire sequence. I hope that helps.
