Could someone please tell me if this recent news by Apple will effect future DPS operations???

      Hi All,

I came across this today (See below). Will this effect future DPS operations?..

"The new guidelines state, "Apps that link to external mechanisms for  purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app, such as a "buy" button  that goes to a web site to purchase a digital book, will be rejected."

It's  pretty clear who this is aimed at – external e-book publishers. Apple  wants all e-book purchases to go through iBook store so that it can nab that juicy 30 per cent fee that it still gets from every book sale"

Any ideas's?? I'm really hoping this isn't that start of another fall out with Adobe?

      Kind regards

      Scott

I dont see how this would effect Adobe's operations.  DPS currently utilizes the "in app" purchase feature, the article is in reference to "buy button" workaround some developers used to have users go outside the app to purchase and download content. (DPS remains inside the app at all times durring download and purchase so it is not effected). The article goes on to say how Apple is actually relaxing its rules to allow outside app subscription in which Apple will take no percentage of.  Infact a publisher can make the outside subscription purchase price lower than the Inapp subscription purchase price-- which is just amazing! .  Of course all this is in preparations of Apple's iOS 5, which will feature a brand new Newstand app hosting a variety of options for Magazine and Newspaper publishers.  On the preview images Apple has release you can see a few magazines created with a variety of Digital Publishing tools including Adobe's DPS and the MAG+ system.  I would imagine the new version of iOS would expand-- not contract-- the usability.

If anything it may effect the Enterprise level of DPS because i know they have options to integrate different payment API's-- im not entirely sure how Adobe handles that integration so i can't really comment on it.

Thank you for sheding some light on that Bend_033. Would have been a major gamer changer our end if this had effected future distribution rights!
