Steve Werner Jun 13, 2011 7:56 PM (in response to Jack)You cannot open an InDesign CS5.5 file directly in InDesign CS5. You need to choose File > Export > IDML and open the IDML file in InDesign CS4 or CS5.

I have the exact same problem. Would you be able to help me?
I have uploaded the file to this link. http://cl.ly/0Y0M223u1q3U303w1y1z
I think I saved it in CS5.5 and now I'm trying to open it in CS5.
Thanks a million,

BobLevine Sep 2, 2011 5:15 AM (in response to 03dunner)Sorry, still without power since Irene ripped through here due to the utter incompetence of JCP&L. Very limited internet.
If I get to Dunkin Donuts later I'll look at it. In the mean time perhaps someone else will come along and help you out.

Jack Sep 9, 2011 5:37 AM (in response to KSNYDER1987)According to an earlier post by Peter in this thread, simply save/export your CS5 content as *.idml, and open in CS5.5; believe that should do it.

Didn't think ahead I guess.
But thank you for the heads-up!

BobLevine Sep 9, 2011 6:28 AM (in response to KSNYDER1987)I converted it but have no way of returning it to you.
Please visit my website, www.theindesignguy.com and go to the contact page there. Send me a message with your email address and I'll email it to you.
And for the lurkers out there...Unless you're willing to visit this page first: www.theindesignguy.com/donate.shtml, please stick to messages here in the forum. I'm getting way too many emails asking for help. I'll get to the ones here when I have time or perhaps someone else will be able to assist.

SarahBJ Jan 21, 2012 1:25 PM (in response to BobLevine)Hi Bob and Everyone Else,
I saw your really helpful post on the Adobe Forum about an InDesign file that won't open in CS5 due to missing plug ins, or maybe the original was created in InDesign CS5.5, we don't know.
I am trying to help a journalism student with his project (exam is Monday) and when I try to open his InDesign file I get the following messages:
This document users one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system: SharedContent.InDesignPlugin
and when I continue, a second alert lists the following missing plug-ins:
FormField.InDesignPlugin
XML.InDesignPlugin
Generic Page Item.InDesignPlugin
Text.InDesignPlugin
Dynamic Documents.InDesignPlugin
Hyperlinks.InDesignPlugin
Document Framework.InDesignPlugin
Graphics.InDesignPlugin
and it says: Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
I cannot see anywhere to upgrade my plug-ins, and cannot afford to upgrade from CS5.
So does this mean the original document was created in INDD CS5.5?
Or can I download the relevant plug-ins from somewhere?
Or can you someone very kindly convert it to CS5 for me please? I do have a dropbox.
Many thanks
Sarah
