Does the Spyder2 express allow you to do a measured adjustment of white level and black level (the defualt is to use the monitor's factory default settings). This could help as it is possible that your monitor's white and black levels are off. The other versions do allow this, although you'll need a lot of patience.
Other than that did you follow the Spyder instructions about resetting the monitor and leaving it that way after calibration?
Did you enable ambient light adjustment during calibration and then use the monitor in a different ambient light environs?
