    Snapping to center of object

    sofie1978

      Hi

Can anyone help me! I need my object (rectangel) to snap to grid, but not to its edges but to the center of the object. Does anyone know if taht is possible?

          Sofie,

Do you mean the Grid or a Grid (only the latter is an object)?

If the latter, and if it has an odd number of dividers, you may select the centre of the rectangle and move it untill the View>Smart Guides say Intersect between the central dividers; or you may use Align>Align Objects.

From the Attributes panel, make sure the rectangle has a center point. If it does, then you should be able to use that to place the object on the grid (depending on the relationship of the rectangle and the grid size.

Oddly enough it will work only if you have a rectangle of evenly divisible width of your grid spacing. Otherwise it will the edges of the rectnagle will snap to the grid. See this 1.5" square snapped between the middle of the gridlines (spaced 1" with 10 divisions)

A rectangle that is NOT evenly divided by the grid spacing will NOT snap by the center point of the rectangle only the edges.
