Encore was running fine, today, super slow, freezes

    lisaellensegal Community Member

I am running windows 7, 64 bit, 6gb ram, i7 core.  Encore CS5 was running great for months.  Today it is super slow, freezes up.  I can't think of a good reason for this.  Any thoughts on how to fix?

Also, I opened up another project and all ran smoothly.  If this project is damaged in some way, is there an efficient way to rebuild?  This is a faily complex or time consuming project.  I have booted and rebooted several times.

      Thanks,

      Lisa

I know PPro has project autosave, I'm not sure about Encore... but, what happens if you open one of the Encore autosave projects?

There is no Encore autosave; it would be nice!

I've started projects over for a variety of reasons, and I rarely find that I take that long compared to athe hours of trouble shooting I have occassionally used. But you are the judge of how difficult it would be to redo.

            Are you using dynamic link?

What indications do you get as to what Encore is doing when it is so slow?

              Dear Stan,

I get the feeling that Encore is Adobe's least favorite of it's programs.  I have no explanation for why it was so slow.  I opened a different project and it was fine.  I am logged into Encore as admin, by the way.  I shut down the computer a few times, forced quit the program.  For some reason, it is working again.  I burned a DVD and all seems good.  What I saw, was sluggish behavior.  I would hover over the menu with very delayed response.  I would click on a button and it would take forever to register.

Here's another question, I usually custom route my buttons.  I noticed that when you edit in photoshop, it alters the flow of the buttons.  I am assuming that it looks at the layer order, but this does not seem to be the case.  Can someone explain this phenonmenon to me?  It gets tiring fixing the routing over and over.

              Thanks,

              Lisa

where is the save folder of the save that runs slowly, I find that when I open a save from my NAS unit the whole program runs slowly and crashes so while i'm working on the project I make sure its saved on my C: drive and then move it to my NAS unit when the project is finished.

I get the feeling that Encore is Adobe's least favorite of it's programs.

Encore was built on the sonic program, and I believe substantial parts still are. I think Adobe has a big bullet to bite if they were ever to rewrite the program as their own. We forgive many of the oddities on that basis, but I also believe that much of Encore is also now Adobe code. It is certainly the most problematic of the Adobe programs I use.

I'll try to find the thread from the last week in which we did several tests of this. Once the menu in added to Encore, the stacking order of the layers in photoshop (or Encore for that matter) has no effect on the button NUMBER. And the button number is what is the key element in routing. If you have automatic number off, and you are doing nothing in Encore (and you can't do it in PS) to change the button number, nothing should change in the routing. What will cause the problem is moving buttons around so their positions are different.

Track the specific changes you are making in PS, and I'll see if I can help you understand why the routing changes.

I changed the automatic routing preferences, and I like automatic routing now. But I use very predictable menus in terms of where the buttons line up.

Here's the other thread about button numbering and routing.
