1. Re: All layer palette icons have changed to "brush" icon only
Chris Cox Jun 27, 2011 10:56 AM (in response to onefiftymph)Something is interfering with basic drawing.
That could be an OpenGL driver issue, a third party plugin, or some UI modification utility (haxie).
What changed since it last drew correctly?
What was installed, or what preferences got changed?

charles badland Jun 27, 2011 11:33 AM (in response to onefiftymph)I looked in top menu prefs, layer options...
So you looked in the fly-out menu in the Layers Panel>Panel Options>and checked Thumbnail Size? (that "None" is not checked?)

onefiftymph Jun 27, 2011 11:47 AM (in response to charles badland)Thanks for your reply Chris.
That was it Charles... I overlooked "none", which was checked. I re-checked an "icon" button and I'm back to normal again.
Strange how that happened because I'm certain I didn't go in there and check "none", as I've rarely opened that flyout panel.
Thanks!

4. Re: All layer palette icons have changed to "brush" icon only
onefiftymph Jun 28, 2011 11:05 AM (in response to onefiftymph)Ok, this is happening every time I launch Photoshop, the Layer Panel options "Show thumbnails" box is turned off by default, and I have to go in and turn it on again each time.
I recall recently that an AppleCare support tech, in an effort to fix some Mac Mail issues, had me throw away a folder in the Library, maybe Prefs?, and restart. This is the only thing I've done to my system in recent memory. No upgrades, no new apps, nothing else i can come up with...
Would really like to resolve this! Any ideas? thanks

5. Re: All layer palette icons have changed to "brush" icon only
charles badland Jun 28, 2011 11:21 AM (in response to onefiftymph)Definitly try trashing your prefs:
close Photoshop. Hold down the shift+option+command keys AS you relaunch the program. You'll get a small dialog confirming you want to reset your settings. Click OK.

6. Re: All layer palette icons have changed to "brush" icon only
Chris Cox Jun 28, 2011 1:08 PM (in response to charles badland)Are you getting a warning about preferences being locked when you quit Photoshop? If so, you may not be saving your new preferences (so the change doesn't stick). This would most likely be due to permissions problems on the preferences folder.
