1. Re: Photoshop 32bits does not start up anymore on Windows 7 64bits.
Chris Cox Jul 4, 2011 9:43 AM (in response to Lucien Schilling)First, you're running 12.0.0 and the current version is 12.0.4. (or 12.1 if you have CS 5.5).
You need to install some updates.
Have you tried disabling all plugins? (and do you recall that 32 bit and 64 bit have separate install locations?)

2. Re: Photoshop 32bits does not start up anymore on Windows 7 64bits.
Lucien Schilling Jul 5, 2011 2:30 AM (in response to Chris Cox)Thanks for the suggestions.
I did apply the latest updates half an hour before. And the 64 bits Photoshop shows the correct version number (12.0.4).
I did not disable all plugins, but only the TWAIN plugin.
I'm aware that the 32 bits (C:\Program Files (x86)) and 64 bits (C:\Program Files) versions reside in different directory trees.
But effectively, Photoshop (32bits) is 12.0.0, at least that is what the system shows, when you hoover the mouse over the exe.I will now look if I can "manually" upgrade Photoshop (32bits) to 12.0.4 by downloading the upgrade and installing separately.

3. Re: Photoshop 32bits does not start up anymore on Windows 7 64bits.
Noel Carboni Jul 5, 2011 5:31 AM (in response to Lucien Schilling)The Photoshop executable really should be showing 12.0.4.0 as the executable version should have been updated by the updater.
I'm sorry for the really basic question, but did you reboot after installing the 12.0.4 update?
I do vaguely remember a few forum posts claiming the updater had only worked partially, though in my own case it updated all the files no problem. Can you recall whether you changed anything under the Photoshop 32 bit installation area (e.g., did you move or remove any of the Adobe plug-ins, for example)?
If memory serves, the workaround for a "partial update" was to uninstall Photoshop, then reinstall 12.0.0, then update to 12.0.4.

4. Re: Photoshop 32bits does not start up anymore on Windows 7 64bits.
Lucien Schilling Jul 5, 2011 6:15 AM (in response to Lucien Schilling)I uninstalled both, the 64 and the 32 bit Photoshop (as the 32 bits did not uninstall alone!), deleted in the 32 bit directory what was left (one dll) and reinstalled the 12.0.0 version and patched immediately to 12.0.4, after that it worked well (on both 32 and 64 bits PhotoShop). I freshly downloaded the 32 bit TWAIN plugin and copied it to the plugin directory (of 32 bit Photoshop).
The difference from my first install/uninstall action was deleting the leftovers!
It works again. Thanks for the suggestions. I really appreciate your help.
Lucien.
