1. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Colin Brougham Jul 6, 2011 2:16 PM (in response to flbreen)Yes; updates are cumulative. Also, be sure to update your GPU drivers.

2. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 6, 2011 2:28 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Thanks but are you saying that I do not need to download 5.0.1 and 5.0.2?
And do you know if my graphics card needs a PP update to show improvement in the PPMB test?
-
3. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Colin Brougham Jul 6, 2011 2:34 PM (in response to flbreen)Yes, just install 5.0.3.
-
4. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Todd_Kopriva Jul 6, 2011 2:58 PM (in response to flbreen)Why not install the 5.0.4 update?
-
5. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Colin Brougham Jul 6, 2011 3:05 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)I'm assuming that since Francis is referring to the PPBM5 test (which is Windows only), 5.0.3 is the only option.

6. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 6, 2011 3:05 PM (in response to flbreen)Thanks for the info.
The question I really need answered now is whether my graphics card, EVGA GeForce GTX480, needs a PP update to properly support GPU acceleration.
I know that I had to add the 480 name to the list of supported graphic cards to get the GPU acceleration to engage and I know that the PP 5.0.3 update claims to support a graphics card that previous versions did not support.

7. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 6, 2011 3:09 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Actually when I submitted the results of the test I took the test today it allowed me to pick from all 4 versions of 5.0.

8. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
JSS1138 Jul 6, 2011 3:13 PM (in response to flbreen)GPU acceleration is engaged but it doesn't seem to help much processing hidef video files.
It may well not. Only certain things are accelerated, and simple playback isn't one of them. For that, you're still reliant on a very powerful CPU.

9. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 6, 2011 3:23 PM (in response to flbreen)These were the results I got from Harm in May 2011:
"Your results in the benchmark are rather disappointing, especially on the MPE side of things, but also with MPEG2 export. I would have expected your MPE results to be around 13 - 14 seconds and not at 41 seconds."
I built this PC last summer based on detailed specs in a forum article for a good CS5 PC.
I built it because I was affaid I would have to edit new HD files soon.
I was able to stay away from HD work until this spring when I was given HD files from a new Sony camcorder.
They played so poorly I could not edit them on my PP 5.0.0.
I took the test, it was bad, and I am hoping to fine a solution.

10. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
JSS1138 Jul 6, 2011 3:25 PM (in response to flbreen)What CPU did you end up with?
What model Sony camera was used?

11. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 6, 2011 3:33 PM (in response to JSS1138)Camcorder - MTS files from a Sony NXCam - highest resolution
CPU - Intel i7 930 CPU (2.8GH)

12. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
shooternz Jul 6, 2011 9:51 PM (in response to flbreen)Maybe you have system and hardware issues (eg. bottle-necks, set up, file management) that need to be checked by the gurus.
Supply the details and someone is bound to comment.

13. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Harm Millaard Jul 7, 2011 12:09 AM (in response to flbreen)Frank,
You have managed to shave off a few seconds here and there, but nothing major. What driver version are you using for the video card? I'll post your new results in a couple of hours. I need to see if it is better to change your existing record or add a new one.
First update to 5.04. If you rerun only the rendering test with MPE on, but turn of Aero and other visual effects and especially the sidebar before running is, do your rendering results improve significantly?

14. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 7, 2011 2:33 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)I just updated to 5.0.4 and when I brought q project Pr turned off GPU acceleration.
I fixed that problem.
Actually I thought I updated to 5.0.4 but but Pr come up saying it is 5.0.3.
My NVIDIA Control Panel - Version 3.4.772.04
Under Program Settings -> Select a Program to customize -> Premiere Pro CS4 -> Mulilple display performance mode
Notes:
1) Premiere Pro CS5 not available.
2) Should I use "Single display performance mode" instead of Multiple since I am using 1 display

17. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Toomany3 Jul 7, 2011 8:38 AM (in response to Harm Millaard)5.0.4? Is this a Mac-only update? My Windows verion says it's up to date at 5.0.3.

Colin Brougham Jul 7, 2011 8:42 AM (in response to Toomany3)5.0.4? Is this a Mac-only update?
Yep. Fixed one issue with ATI cards crashing on the Mac.

19. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 7, 2011 9:56 AM (in response to flbreen)I have updated to Pr 5.0.3 and I think my driver for my EVGA GeForce GTX480 is also up to date.
I am concerned about the fact that when I go to the nVidia control panel and I locate Premiere.exe it refers to it as Premiere Pro CS4 instead of CS5 which I hop it is.
If that is not a problem that would be great.

20. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Colin Brougham Jul 7, 2011 10:00 AM (in response to flbreen)If that is not a problem that would be great.
Not a problem.

21. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
JSS1138 Jul 7, 2011 10:00 AM (in response to flbreen)It is not a problem.
In fact, you can skip that step and things will still work fine.

22. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
flbreen Jul 7, 2011 10:13 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Is anybody using my graphics card in a similar PC and getting good results on the PPMB5 Benchmark Test.
EVGA GeForce GTX480
CPU - Intel i7 930 CPU (2.8GH)12GB RAM
Thanks

23. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Harm Millaard Jul 7, 2011 11:19 AM (in response to flbreen)Your driver version shows as 260.99 where it should be 275.33. Update your drivers.

24. Re: Updating from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3
Harm Millaard Jul 7, 2011 5:14 PM (in response to flbreen)Huge improvement Frank,
"Your results in the benchmark are rather disappointing, especially on the MPE side of things, but also with MPEG2 export. I would have expected your MPE results to be around 13 - 14 seconds and not at 41 seconds."
I notice that I was conservative in my estimation of 13-14 seconds as it appears to be 12 seconds now. Well done. I'll publish them tomorrow.
PS. should be saying today as it is already 0200 here.
