1. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
try67 Oct 7, 2010 10:10 AM (in response to DavidW7)To change the properties of a text box you need to use Either the text box
tool, or the Select Object tool (black cursor).
Right-click it and select Properties.

DavidW7 Oct 7, 2010 12:23 PM (in response to try67)Thanks but these are not relevant since those tools' properties (which I can use succesfully) pertain to the properties of the box itself only and nothing there deals with the text content inside the box.

4. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
DavidW7 Oct 7, 2010 1:11 PM (in response to try67)No, this is simple plain text written in a text box.Seems you are missing what exactly is a Text Box.

6. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
Bill@VT Oct 7, 2010 2:38 PM (in response to DavidW7)The Text Box (at least as given in AA8) is a comment field. You have to select the text box and then you can do very limited editing of the text format. You can select the text in the text box and right click to get formating options. All that you get is bold, underline, super/subscript, etc. There is no font info as such available. In a sense, the text in a PDF is also located in a box, though not called that. You use the text touchup tool to edit and format that text. The other two formats of text boxes is the text field of the forms menu and the typewriter tool that has limited formating options. In general, Acrobat is not an editor and trying to use it as such will lead to a lot of frustration.
If you wonder about try67's last comment, he is just passing on you. He is one of the experts around here and he was trying to clarify what you have done. Without that clarification, it is difficult to help. We are not sitting behind your screen and are guessing what you are trying to do. Just bidding you luck is a simple way of staying out of an argument and is often wise online. You will note that my suggestion is to look at the comments text box effectively, that was part of the question he asked.

7. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
DavidW7 Oct 9, 2010 12:00 AM (in response to Bill@VT)Many thanks for the elaborate feedback. I have just tried to present some unexplainable FACTS and no opinion (let alone arguing), in the hope someone knows to explain them. The facts are that in many previous versions, at least till Acrobat 6 included (I skipped ver. 7) it was possible to modify attributes ( such as font size or color) of the text in a text box. In addition, as I also mentioned, the help book of ver. 8 also explains very clear not only that it is possible but also how do do it except that it is simply not functioning.

9. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
DavidW7 Oct 9, 2010 5:36 AM (in response to Bernd Alheit)Thank you so much – that worked of course. [One explanation I can think off is that Adobe didn't update the Help book (hard and soft copies).]
In contrast, I wonder how come people who don’t know what they are talking about write that much… No offend to those writers whom I am sure had a good intention.
Your short but to the point feedback reminds me the following story about Albert Einstein, who was brilliant not only in science but about life in general: After Nazis came to power in Germany, 100 sciene professors who supported the Nazi regime, signed a letter in which they claimed that Albert Einstein’s theories are false. Einstein was then asked what his response is to the fact that so many signed that letter. His answer was: “If what is in the letter is correct, it would be enough for one professor to sign it…”.

11. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
DavidW7 Oct 10, 2010 6:13 AM (in response to Bernd Alheit)I think it was my mistake – because search of multiple words in the help doc is by default still an (inclusive) OR operation (and I don’t know how to force it to an AND operation), apparently the description I got referred actually to regular text in a document and not to Text Box text. As to the hard copy, it was not the Help but the “Classroom in a book” book and nothing about the subject there.
I also run into major problems with that Ctrl+E. Today, when I reopened the same document it worked for me yesterday, selected the same text in the Text Box, when performing Ctrl+E, it responded in the tool bar area with a message: “No current selection”… and refused to open that Edit Text Box menu bar. I have tried many things all in vain. I have then created a new text box with new text and then Ctrl+E worked, including for the original text box where it previously refused. Very odd. What am I missing? Is there some general setting I need to set to avoid this “Now you see it now you don’t” behavior?
Also, for one brief moment, I could see the Ctrl+E option (didn’t get the verbal description) in one of the pulldown menus but it quickly disappeared and I can’t revive this situation. Do you know in what menu it should be and what is required to get it back, and hopefully staying there?
Thanks

12. Re: Acrobat 8.2.4: TouchUp Text Tool is not functioning
Ozwac Jul 7, 2011 6:00 AM (in response to DavidW7)I often use the text box tool to markup pdf documents. Since the upgrade to Version 9, formating text in Text Boxs has been intermittant. When it works normally; highlighting the text causes a font editing menu to appear and highlighting the box causes a box editing menu to appear. Sometimes, closing the file and reopening it sometimes seems to work, but I cannot swear to that. Ctrl e has never worked for me. My version is 9.4.5.
