Brushes - Change default settings across the board?

Is there a way to modify the default characteristics of the brushes, all them, not individually?

I'd like all of my brushes to have spacing set to 10, or maybe even less. In the dark ages, the default of 25 seemed to be a good balance for drawing speed given CPU performance. Now, having tighter spacing does not seem to slow things down, and all too often the spacing of 25 leaves noticeably scalloped edges - especially a problem when painting in a mask. I know I can change that brush, or set up my own palette of brushes, but really, I'd like to set a global preference for spacing, and maybe some other characteristics.

Anyone know how to achieve this?

Sorry, no proper answer to the question, but nonetheless:

It might be possible to edit the abr-file, but that seems dubious to begin with.

But maybe one could automate the task with a Script.

Looking into that would depend on whether the number of affected Brushes may be worth the effort or if it would be quicker to do it manually.

You could ask over in the Photoshop Scripting Forum if someone has an idea for or experience with this.
