Converting older help to RH8

My company has purchased RH8 and RHS8.  The year before last, we paid a contractor to convert our old content (RE3).  She used RH7, but I think she only left me the output files, not the source files.  I don't see any project files in the content to import into RH8.  How can I verify this is the case?  Also, any thoughts about where to start, if this is the case, getting a new project going possibly using or based on the old content?

If you've only got output files, see Peter Grainge's site (grainge.org) about reverse-engineering. You've got fun times ahead of you ;>)

PS - smack that contractor the next time you see them!

Thanks for the link.  I will dig into that on Monday.  Prior to that, how can I tell for sure that these are the output files and not the source files?  Is it obvious by the absence of any project files?

Pretty much - no .xpj file and lots of .htm files = output, not source

Hi there

If you have source files, you will see a number of files beginning with the same name. The name of your project. They will all have different file extensions. Look for a file ending in a file extension of .CPD. That is definitely a source file and will not be present in output files. Same goes for .XPJ or .APJ files.

If you have output files only, you won't see these files. And you will also see some folders named whdata, whgdata and whxdata.

Cheers... Rick
