can't get to main menu with my remote

    nefl777 Community Member

hi guys, anyone run into this before? I have one main menu and 3 scene menus.  when I hit the 'top menu' key on my remote, it goes to scene menu 1.

I have created quite a few projects so far and my remote has worked fine with them.

But on this project, on every single scene menu, if I hit top menu, it goes to scene menu 1.

I have examined my settings and can't seem to find where this is somehow specified on my project. IF I do hit my "main menu" button it will go to the main menu.

thanks for any help ! much appreciated.

Select the "disk" in the flowchart. Look in the properties panel for title/menu remote.

Good morning, you were right - for some crazy reason the "title" button got set to the first scene menu.  I haven't created a new disc yet but I will and I hope that fixes it.

I have another question relating to buttons.

On a scene menu, I have a list of 17 chapters.  They are numbered from top to bottom 1 to 17 and on the Properties I can see their numbers, that they are "Chapters" and in order.

In Preview and on my disc player remote, when I arrow down the list, they sometimes jump.  So, going from 1 to 2 is fine.  2 to 3 is fine.  but 5 to 6 won't work, it jumps over one.  I have double checked... they are correctly numbered. Is this a bug ?

              advice?

thanks again for your original answer!!

Once a menu is in the project, changing the button number does not affect routing.

Click the "show routing" icon at the bottom of the menu viewer. It will show you how they are assigned.

You cannot change the routing unless you have "automatic routing" off.

If you have automatic routing on, and the routing preferences are set correctly, it should adjust by position.

thanks for this !!  I have now turned off automatic routing in order to control these numbers.  As a side note, these scene menus were generated by the cmd "generate chapter index" .  Maybe that is what has hosed my routing?

                  My routing is completely illogical.

The "show routing" gives me a diagram of a cross layed over each button. the middle is the button number. I have figured it out that the top number is the entry you want to go if you hit the "up" on your remote. the same is side to side. I got that much.

Now, how do I edit these?

Here is my menu with button routing:

Note that button number 6 titled "gravity" is followed by button #7 "I got it from my mama".  This is the one that WILL not Down Arrow. So, if I'm on "gravity" and I "down arrow", it skips to "funkytown" and refuses to go to "I got it from my mama".

Thanks again for this help and it's truly an education !

With automatic button routing off, just drag the down arrow on button six into button 7. Fixed!

Repeat for any others that are off.

I have not found the chapter generation to create odd routing, but it certainly might.

I have not tested it, but I believe that odd layout of buttons results in odd routing.  In your case, I would create the first submenu (that is used for the pattern for your other submenus) so that all buttons are the same size.

The most likely thing to throw off routing are the previous, next, etc, when their layout interrupts the layout of the buttons. Look at the automatic numbering preferences to see what kind of control it can exercise.

Here is my menu with button routing:

                        Screen shot 2011-07-18 at 10.21.26 AM.png

Note that button number 6 titled "gravity" is followed by button #7 "I got it from my mama".  This is the one that WILL not Down Arrow. So, if I'm on "gravity" and I "down arrow", it skips to "funkytown" and refuses to go to "I got it from my mama".

To edit this, first select the menu in the project panel and now in the Properties panel, uncheck the "Automatically Route buttons" in menu's properties.

Now in the figure above you will see that the mouse pointer changes to a hand icon when you hover over to any number of the button number rectangle.

Just drag to the desired number and you are done.

For example in your case, to go to button#7 when you press down on button#6, go to the lower number in the button #6 rectangle and drag and drop this over to the number 7.

Then you will see that the button# 6 rectangle has number 7 instead of number 8 (which is there in the figure right now.)

                        Do this for every button.

                        Good luck.

                        Thanks,

                        Ramesh.

I'm getting so educated today!!  thank you all for your expertise.

About the 'generate chapter index". I did learn after a while that you must layout the buttons in a perfect order which I did - top to bottom. Then I threw in a Previous, Mainmenu, and Next button at the bottom.

I noticed that when the operation was complete, it had thrown my Previous button on top of the last chapter entry.  This, along with "automatic routing" might have created this tangle.

I now have it under control even tho it's quite tedious to drag these pointers.  At least now I see how this is working and I can control it.

THANK YOU GUYS! you've really made my day and I can get this project out the door.
