Hi all,
We have just upgraded from RH5 to RH9. We are using IE9. All of our projects transferred over just fine - except for one. We are able to publish this topic; however, the images within the topics are not being displayed when we publish - we get the dreaded red 'x'. We can see the images when viewing the topics in RH. However, they are not listed in the images folder in the Project Manager. The images can be seen using Quick view and Internet view. However, they cannot be seen when we generate a Word document.
Every other project is functioning properly. We can publish everything else just fine. This one project is our oldest project, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Any guidance or direction will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Linda

Try adding them to the project as Baggage files?

Jeff,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, baggage files would work in this case. The images are within the topics such has:

Hi Linda
Assuming that adding to Baggage would fix the problem, it wouldn't hurt anything to add them. Baggage is simply a way of telling RoboHelp to include content it normally wouldn't. And sometimes, if images are referenced in a specific way, you need to add to baggage to ensure they survive the trip.
In your case there is likely something fundamentally wrong. I'd begin by scrutinizing the topics. Actually, in thinking about it, can you please post the HTML of one of the topics where images are missing?
My suspicion is that this project is referencing images in a manner that is unconventional. Do you by chance recall seeing any messages upon opening the project that indicate something along the lines of: "References are outside the project and will not be shown in Project Manager" or something like that?
Cheers... Rick

Rick,
Thanks for your help. I did attach one of my images as a baggage file, and low and behold, the image appeared in my topic after publishing (I'm sorry I thought you were both nuts). I just hope there is something I can do short of attach over 6500 images as baggage files.
Here is the HTML for one of my topics. Please let me know if you see anything hinky in there. I bolded where the jpg image is:

Hello again
You might try clearing the .CPD and see if that changes things.
From RoboHelp, Click Tools > Options... Click the General section of the Settings area on the left. Then on the right, enable the option: Clear project cache (cpd file) before opening any project.
Click the image below for larger view
After you ensure the option is enabled, close the dialog and close the project in RoboHelp. Then re-open the project and RoboHelp should rebuild a fresh CPD. Maybe that will help.
Cheers... Rick

Rick,
Thanks again, but that actually made matters worse. For some reason, it changed my published font. The images are still not there, and now my text is all funked out. It still appears 'normal' in the project, but in the published version, it's horrible. All I can say is, I'm glad I am publishing to a test site and the old version is still out there for my users.

Hi Linda
Surprising to me that clobbering the CPD would affect the font. Further surprised that you are still seeing issues with images not surviving.
It does occur to me that all the images may not have been propely handled. What you posted seems to suggest that instead of capturing images, saving them, THEN inserting them into RoboHelp, they were instead simply pasted into the RoboHelp editor and left to fend for themselves. You did mention thousands of images, so it makes me wonder if they are all lumped inside the same folder.
In that same Tools > Options dialog did you try enabling the option Convert RoboHelp edited files to HTML?
Cheers... Rick

Pete,
I really appreciate you putting so much time and effort into my dilemma. I tried your latest trick and it did not change anything.
Most of my images are screen captures. I take a screen capture, crop it in Front Page, then paste it in the RoboHelp topic where it goes. So does this mean I've "left them to fend for themeselves?"
The images used to be in the 'Images' folder in the Project Manager, but now they are gone from there and no where else in the Project Manager. When I open the file structure, they are just all lumped in the root folder of the project. I am beginning to believe that is not good.

Hi Linda
I'm not sure who Pete is but hopefully my reply will be accepted here.
You said:

This suggests you aren't totally comfortable with the newer versions of RoboHelp. If you wish to see the Images "folder" again, just toggle the view by clicking this icon:
Note that toggling the view likely won't make the images magickally reappear. There is something that caused them to be dropped from the project files (and that's why adding to baggage seems to help). So if you toggle the view, don't be surprised that you still don't see them.
Normally when I work with screen captures, I use SnagIt. I capture, then save the image where I want it to be. Then I add it to the project and reference it from there. When you paste into RoboHelp you are giving up control. You are allowing RoboHelp to name the image. So instead of seeing a file name and knowing it's a PrinterIcon.gif you are left to guess because RoboHelp names it image(somenumber).jpg.
I'm wondering... What if you double-click one of the "missing" images to get the image dialog, then dismiss it. Does that change anything?
Cheers... Rick

If changing the view doesn't display any images in your project, you could try renaming or creating a new folder and seeing if that displays images in your project. There was a problem in RH7 and RH8 where not all images displayed in the project (esp after deleting the cpd) and renaming a folder caused RH to find the files again. I'm unsure if they found and fixed this issue in RH9. It's also a long shot, as this didn't usually affect all images, just a few. And it could take a long time to process, given the number of images in your project - I'd recommend kicking it off just before lunch, or maybe overnight if you can't afford the time during work hours.

You saved my day. I have been working on a similar issue for 3 days and just found this post. It works. I am ecstatic!
Thank you you so much!!!

I have a similar problem. Some of my images do not display when I publish. The images can be viewed in RH, and all the images are in the Image folder, but some of the images display a red x when published as html.
I am using Robohelp 9 and IE 8. This is a new laptop and RH 9 and IE 8 are fresh installs that run on Windows 7.
Also, my images are stored locally in my computer. i am inserting JPG files in RH. I do not use screen captures because I want to keep track of all my images.
i tried to clear the project cache as suggested above, but that did not do anything to help properly publish my images.
I'd appreciate any help i can get.
Thanks,
chad
