Monika Gause Jul 29, 2011 6:20 AM (in response to Rodobe1984)Just apply a dashed stroke to the path. You can then adjust the distribution of dashes with the two buttons in the stroke-panel to be adjusted to the edges of the path. You maybe have to show the panel's options using its menu.

Rodobe1984 Jul 29, 2011 7:47 AM (in response to Monika Gause)Thanks for the reply.
Creating the horizontal dashes isn't the problem - I want to make these vertical as shown in my example but I can't find a way to rotate from horizontal to vertical.
This used to be as simple as changing the stroke style or brush. I can change the variable width profile but there doesn't appear to be an easy way to switch between brushes/styles.
I've opened the various brush library windows but I can't see anything that resembles what I'm looking for.

Cheers

Grant H Aug 1, 2011 6:01 AM (in response to Rodobe1984)are you by any chance creating a watch or similar, cause then stroke not best option. Transform effect then the answer.

Rodobe1984 Aug 1, 2011 7:34 AM (in response to Grant H)I've been trying to do this so to add to a certification logo for paper embossing. Similar to the surround you might find on a rubber stamp.
Cheers though

Jacob Bugge Aug 1, 2011 7:11 AM (in response to Rodobe1984)Rodobe,
Another way, without accuracy issues and without the need for adjusting gaps/whatever to fit, would be to:
1) Create a vertical path with the desired length and width,
2) Object>Transform>Move a copy horizontally,
3) Object>Blend>Options, with Specified Steps equalling the total number of lines less one (the first and last line will coincide, see below), and Align to Path ticked,
4) Select 1) and 2) and Object>Blend>Make of 1) and 2)
5) Create a circle and cut it where you want the first/last line,
6) Select the blend and the cut circle and Object>Blend>Replace Spine.
If desired, you may Object>Blend>Expand and delete one of the first/last lines.

Rodobe1984 Aug 1, 2011 7:48 AM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Thanks Jacob,
I've not tried this yet but as it's often useful to have an alternative way of doing things I'll be sure to keep note. This job was part of a visual and using the technique above allowed me to quickly switch stroke weight and distribution of the 'gaps'. I really appreciate you guys taking time to assist during my Ilustrator 'brain fart'
