    Catalog Access for Development

    Jack Community Member

How does one gain access to existing catalog photos for further development in LR? If I select Import | (folder name), I can see the desired photo grayed-out. Now I want to go to "Develop" mode and do some work. Can't find the way to take that next step. How is that done? (missing something obvious?)

          John,

Once you have imported your photos, there is no need to import them again. Can't you see the imported images in the Library Module of LR? If not, make sure you don't have any filters active. To do development work, you then change into the development module of LR.

I would suggest you watch some videos on how to use LR, like the "Lightroom 3 Getting Started Series" by Julieanne Kost on Adobe TV.

To add to the good advice else-thread, Lr is telling you it has already imported those images by greying them out, as you have "do not import suspected duplicates" checked.

Importing creates a reference to the image, which can be found in your Library view (with the default [or appropriate] metadata filter enabled.
