Andrew Yoole Jul 30, 2011 6:18 PM (in response to dolamike810)Presuming you mean the rapid "Blink" effect, apply a transition effect to the upper layer. Create Hold keyframes of 0% and 100% for the transition completion. Duplicate and space the keyframes as desired.

chande a k Jul 31, 2011 4:59 AM (in response to dolamike810)I think you can easily achieve this kind of effect in any non linear Video Editing software, including Adobe Premiere Pro or FCP. There are two layers of Video., 1st layer that is layer at bottom is continious video whereas on 2nd layer that is top layer still image or freeze frame is inserted for two frames and a gap of 4/5 frames and another 2 frames inserted and thereafter you apply any desired built in transition.. no other plug ins required

Todd_Kopriva Jul 31, 2011 8:12 AM (in response to dolamike810)If you don't understand the answer that Andrew gave you, then it's important that you begin at the beginning and learn the basics of After Effects first.

Rick Gerard Jul 31, 2011 9:06 AM (in response to chande a k)I'd use a loopOut expression on 3 keyframes for opacity. I'd also probably experiment with blending modes and throw in the exposure effect to get the flash at the end. A 32 bit comp will help you get a better blending mode with the footage. This will get you blink effect down, then simply cut to the revealed video. You'll end up with 3 layers in your composition. The bottom layer, the blinking layer, then then a duplicate of the blinking layer without effects.
The loop out expression is prewritten for you and requires no modification. You'll find it by clicking on the icon just to the right of the pickwhip expression and selecting Properties.
Your blink layer's opacity property should look like this:
The first and last keyframes are set to 100, the middle, as you can see is set to 10% but it's a matter of personal preference. This will give you 2 frames of full visibility and one at 10%. Changing the spacing of these 3 keyframes changes the look of the blink.

chande a k Jul 31, 2011 10:41 AM (in response to Rick Gerard)Rick, Thank you for your detailed explanation...Let me be frank, I have very limited knowledge of After Effect. Basically I am a Photographer/Videographer.. I have vast knowledge, experiance in Photoshop and Adobe premiere.. The kind of effect which is under reference, we very often give this effect in Adobe Premiere in our fast Musical Video Editing.. 2 frame of Blinking has its own meaning and quiet effective., ( we generally dont use Wipe or Transition this spoils the effect ) My use of After effect is limited to Creating presentable Caption and some Animation only. Thank you for the trouble you have taken

Gilberto Balderas Aug 2, 2011 6:18 PM (in response to dolamike810)Its easy, just put 2 layers, upper layer keyframe opacity at 0% at frame 1 and then another keyframe at frame 10 with 100% opacity right click on each keyframe and select toggle hold keyframe (looks like a pentagon) select both keyframes and copy the keyframes and go to frame 20 and paste, continue pasting every 10 frames after the last keyframe, at the end you can select all keyframes and press ALT to drag keep them distributed.
