What does this have to do with Acrobat ebooks? Is the e-book you bought an Acrobat ebook? If not, what kind of ebook is it?

It's a Borders e-book that I can open on my computer using Adobe digital reader. I can cipy it to my Kindle but can't read it because it is a .ascm file which is not recognized by Kindle.

Free books are different than books protected by a drm solution. Generally, if it is a drm protected file that works with Adobe digital editions it will not work on the present versions of the Kindle.

What you should know is that Amazon uses the .azw ebook format for the security of ebooks.
What you could do is converting .epub to .azw with free software like Calibre.
