This is the same issue that I have with the Adobe Reader. I am not certain if it is a permissions issue, in some cases in might be, or Adobe just wants you to upgrade to another edition of their software to underline or highlight .pdf files. In this case I purchased and downloaded a textbook from Cisco and then had to download and install Adobe DE to view the file. This has been an unanswered question for a long time. So what is the process or procedure to I have to follow to be able to highlight this book. I like digital books because I can store and view them on my laptop, but when I am studying I like to underline etc.
Thanks, kztec2000

ADE has Reader components built into it. Check the FAQ's on the Help page
for more information. It might be a 'level' compatibility problem.

Yes, this is very frustrating. I'm used to Adobe Acrobat Pro and hoped for the same features in Acrobat DE. As it states on theAcrobate DE website:
Add bookmarks to PDF or EPUB documents so that you can quickly navigate around a document. You can also highlight text and add comments for future reference within your digital publications.
The "find" option is not working either. As previous frustrated customers and users mentioned - this is not a copyright issue! Adobe, please fix it, you do such great work otherwise.
Best,

If you read the FAQ's for ADE, you'll see that the current edition
incorporates features in Reader 5, but not higher..... I agree that they
should incorporate a much more current version.

We have reader 10.1 now - so the statement on the website is kind of
misleading. Or how should I see that?

No, the statement isn't misleading. It's telling you that the Reader
functions that ADE supports are those incorporated in Reader through its
version 5. IOW, when they created the software, they built in those
functions - and haven't incorporated more recent functions in their
upgrades. To put it a different way, Adobe has Reader 10.1 in the
marketplace, but it's not built into ADE.

Sorry to hear that. But thanks for the information. There is nothing to do
I guess, then to buy the book again, as an old fashioned hard copy. Or do
you have other suggestions?
Thanks!

Wish I had more experience in that area, but I just read for pleasure.
There is other software that will manage ebooks, and perhaps one of your
fellow students can suggest a package that has those features in it. BUT -
and it's a pretty sizeable 'but' - the publisher of the ebook assigns
digital rights to it, which can limit what you can do, such as copying,
printing or even loading the ebook onto an ereader. You can check those
rights if you have the ebook loaded to ADE by placing your cursor on the
name of the ebook. A small arrow will appear next to the name. Place your
cursor on that arrow and a drop-down menu will appear. Choose 'Item Info'
and click on it. A popup will show you what digital rights are assigned to
the ebook.
The industry has been at this electronic media thing for more than a dozen
years now, but it's still somewhat primitive - no matter whose software you
use.
