    InDesign CS5 interactive slideshow

    elianastein Community Member

Hi. I've setup a simple slideshow using the multistate feature. I have a button for next state and a button for previous state. The slideshow functions correctly when I preview it within InDesign. When I export (interactive PDF), however, the slideshow doesn't work. The buttons are live (the cursor switches to a hand) but the actual images don't change. Any ideas?

      thanks!

          Object states are SWF only.

That solves my question before I've asked it!

Does anyone know of a way to create a similar slideshow for use in Interactive PDF - it would be very useful.

maybe a tad too late but there is a bit of a workaround.

When you export your indesign to Interactive PDF the slideshow is not going to work.

Interactive PDF does however support flash files.

So what you can do is make your slideshow in a separate indesign document, export it to swf and place that swf in your indesign file that you intend to export to Interactive PDF.

The slideshow will work just fine in the resulting PDF.

It's a bit of a workaround but it works. A nuisance i've noticed is that you get a flash icon in the pdf urging you to click it to activate the slideshow (making it visible) haven't looked into autoactivating these if it's even possible.

You don´t actually need to make it in separate document since InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 offers possibility to export SWF from selection, so you can create your multistate object to correct position, select it and export selection as SWF. Later you can replace original multistate object with resulting SWF.

And if you check Play on Page Load in Media-panel and define first frame as a poster, you shouldn´t see a flash icon in PDF... your slideshow activates while user enters to page.... and it´s ready to use...

                  Hi there,

Thanks for the tips! Very useful. One last thing : I did all steps one by one, exported the selection as a swf (multistate object + related buttons), checked Play on Page Load, and first frame as a poster.

But I export de pdf, indesign always flatten my swf and I lose the multistate object, the buttons, it is just a flattened image...

Do you have something about that?

                  I would be soooo apreciate

oh BTW, I work with indesign CC

Did you use Interactive PDF, not PDF for print?

And make sure you have Forms and Media: Include All selected on Interactive PDF export window.
