    Import Preset does not work...

    fuaho Community Member

      I am importing thousands of images from hundreds of DVDs with subfolders.

      In the Import dialog, I have selected the drive, and "Add," set "Render Previews to Standard," checked "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" and checked "Include Subfolders."

      I then used "Save Current Settings As New Preset" to create an Import Preset.

      However, after the import is complete and I select the next DVD to import, the "Include Subfolders" resets to unchecked even though the Import Preset has not changed.

      Anyone know how to get this setting to stay selected??

      TIA,

          Unfortunately, the import prsets do not included the source device/location. The store info on the type of import (e.g. copy, move, etc), backup location, file, name, develop presets, and a bunch of other stuff that can be done to files during import.

          Here's the contents of a typical Import Preset

          autoSegmentMethod = "autoSegment_None",

          backupDownloadFolder = "/Users/ianlyons/Pictures/Lightroom/Download Backups",

          crSettingsID = "A2F6DCB2-F6BE-4F3A-96A4-732EC4B1C1CE",

          doCopyToBackupFolder = false,

          extensionCase = "unchanged",

          ignoreSuspectedDuplicates = true,

          importBehavior = "refInPlace",

          importServiceProvider = "com.adobe.ag.import.file",

          importServiceProviderTitle = "Files on Disk",

          initialSequenceNumber = 1,

          keywords = "",

          metadataPresetID = "CE1FDEB2-67F5-43C2-BC8B-CB4B5C84ED33",

          previewBuildQuality = "sbig",

          previewJPEGQuality = 0.75,

          renamingTokensEnabled = false,

          renamingTokensOn = true,

          shootNameFormat = "%Y/%Y-%m-%d",

          standardPreviewSize = 1440,

          suppressImportDialog = false,

          tokenCustomString = "",

          tokenShootName = "",

          tokens = "{{date_YYYYMMDD}}-{{image_name}}",

            OK. Thanks!

            BTW, where is that preset information located? I'd like to take a look at it on my system. Win7 64-bit.

            TIA,

              "Edit -> Preferences -> Presets Tab -> Show Lightroom Presets Folder" will show you C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe, within which you have different folders for different presets.

              Btw, are you sure you want to import using ADD from your DVD's? This way, you'll end up with missing photos/folders for all images residing on non-online DVD's.

                Thanks for the path info.

                Yes, I do want to import using "Add." The images are already on the DVDs and I have a very comprehensive system of archiving, storing and locating those disks.  I am including the disk ID in the sublocation and keyword metadata of each image. Once I have a complete database of 1:1 thumbnails, it will be a simple matter to find any image on any disk for printing. Have imported over 10k thumbnails so far and the system works perfectly.

                  OK, as long as you're aware of what you're doing :-)
