John Hawkinson Aug 17, 2011 6:23 PM (in response to kenackr)Common issues -- submitting an avatar for approval is not the same as selecting it. You cannot select it until it has been approved.
Also, avatars are different from user pictures.
Either of those is probably it. So go back to your profile and re-select the now-approved avatar.

kenackr Aug 17, 2011 6:46 PM (in response to John Hawkinson)OK. I went to the profile where my avatar was already proudly displayed. But to tell the truth, I really don't know the difference betwen a user pic & an avatar in this here Adobe speak. I clicked the browse button and selected the same pic from the same location as the "approved" avatar.
Folks, it's not as I haven't been using Adobe products for a number of years, but this level of unexplained double take has been long ago bypassed by other folks getting paid to write code. Is this sort of like a hidden Mensa test?

kenackr Aug 18, 2011 8:15 AM (in response to John Hawkinson)OK,
Another day.
Here is a screen grab of the edit forum profile page:
Sorry about the size but that's the auto resize on the uploader.
At any rate, the uploaded picture is labled "current image". It's a Jpeg and I reduced it to 320 px wide in photoshop as the instructions ask for.
1) Nowhere on this page is the term "user pic" or "Avatar" used.
2) Nowhere on this page are any instructions or links to them about "re selecting" the current image mentioned or indicated
3) Last night, after reading the replies, I clicked on the image (thinking I was "selecting" it) and all I got was a new page with just the pic.
4)I then used the browse button and reselected the the file on my computer and then hit the upload button on the upload screen.
5) This morning I got another email saying the pic had been approved (again).
So, since nothing has changed at this point, I must ask:
- Is the "edit forum profile" page shown in the screen grab NOT the correct page?
- Are there written instructions on how to effect this change and if so, where are they located?
- What is the "secret handshake" required to "select" the current pic to make it the avatar?
- Am I daft or are the instructions actually displayed somewhere in invisible ink that can only be seen in blue moonlight?
- Now that I have uploaded the pic twice and get both the same pic and approval both times, what's amiss?
- Is the problem that the pic was reduced in size to 320 px (as instructed in the upload window)? Is it too large to be squeezed to avatar size?
- Other websites have asked for various size sizes for avatars live 65x65 or 100x100.
- Is it "normal" for Adobe to NOT include instructions?

CarlosCanto Aug 18, 2011 11:15 AM (in response to kenackr)that screen is "edit" your profile page, you need to be in your "profile" page
- click on your user name
- that will take you to your profile page
- to the right of the screen where it says "Actions", click on "Change Avatar"

kenackr Aug 19, 2011 8:18 AM (in response to CarlosCanto)Carlos,
Thanks! I had to go back & down size the 320 px shot that I uploaded, but no problem. It's now on the Avatar gallery as pending. I guess that means someone is going to approve it sometime.
I obviously thought like many other websites that the only pic you get to upload is for the avatar. I guess I now know it's a user pic, eventhough I have no idea what it's for except to hang out in my profile page.
