Michelmnr Aug 18, 2011 10:51 AM (in response to Peru Bob)Thank you all, It took me a while to get it and reading many other entries but I know now how to use it. I'm just wandering why my search did not get me there directly instead to get me to photoshop. Though I'm a little red faces as I should have looked into the video effects! (My main trouble was I applied the crop effect on my clip but did not return to Effect control so I could not see the control for the cropping...more red face :)
And Yes the question is answered!

Bill Hunt Aug 18, 2011 11:33 AM (in response to Michelmnr)In the Effects Panel (not the Effects Control Panel), there is a little query box. Just type "crop," and it would have popped up - just do not forget to clear that query box, of you will not see your other Effects.
As for a Google search, I would have done advanced, with the string "Adobe Premiere Pro" and then the word "crop" and "effect" above.
THIS is the second hit, with about the same, but for CS3, that I got. Cropping is more commonly used in still Image editing, such as with PS, so most hits on "crop" will probably throws 1000's of PS references. By putting in that string, where all words are kept together and in order, we eliminated nearly all of those.
Good luck,
Hunt

Michelmnr Aug 18, 2011 7:06 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thanks Bill, actually I did read a lot of yours and others entries on the subject posted sometime ago. Yes it was quite puzzling I had applied the crop (I knew how to call it on the top field in effect to get it showing, but did not realise I had to clear it off) I kept right clicking the clip or clicking on its little black triangle and could see the "crop" effect with the option of which side to crop, but no tool to do it! Actually I also had the effect control tab on and could see the others such as "motion, rotation etc., but no "crop"! I guess when I went back en force it might have deleted the search field content and so finally show me the control for cropping! It's always good and helpful to know what really goes on. Thanks for explaining the likely cause for PS getting most result re cropping in a google search I also tried to follow about using "mat" to achieve similar effect but I leave this for another time!.
