RoboHelp X5 - Hangs After Selecting Generate Primary Layout (HTML Help)

OS: Windows 2000
Version: RoboHelp X5

After opening up a project and selecting "File" then "Generate Primary Layout (HTML Help), the workstation hangs. This just started happening over the last two days and have to wait 20 minutes for the next dialog box to open. Temp files were cleaned up in C:\Documents and Settings\(profile)\Local Settings\Temp. After this cleanup, the dialog appeared within a few seconds and was able to compile. However, after closing a re-opening and selecting "File" then "Generate Primary Layout (HTML Help), the process hung.

When the workstation hangs, the RoboHTML.exe process is at 99% and have to wait 20 minutes for the next dialog to appear. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem all of a sudden? Normally it takes 20-30 seconds and not 20 minutes.

Thanks.

Hello baleib -

Welcome!

Could be a corrupted cpd file. Save your cpd file somewhere safe then re-start your project and re-generate or check this thread:

Thanks, we will give this a try. Some of these files are 10+ MB.

Unfortunately, the problem persists after compacting the .cpl for the project file in Access 97 - reducing it from 10MB to 3.3MB. The "Generate Primary Layout (HTML Help)" hangs and also if you modify one of the files and save it also hangs. Any other ideas?

Also don't store your help projects in a virtual directory such as "My Documents", create a real directory off your C: drive.

(Oh and one other thing of course, don't work off a network drive..... )

CPL? Don't you mean CPD?

Compacting isn't quite the same as renaming an reopening the project but see the article on my site about Opening Projects before you do that.

Or try creating a new layout.

The link did not say to delete, so we just compacted/repaired. This time we deleted the files and seems to be working good for the first two days; it re-created the files. Thanks.
