1. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Ann Bens Sep 14, 2011 1:25 PM (in response to lbsimpson)Just update (it contains all the fixes) within Premiere its under the Help in the main dropdown menu.
You can also update from the Bridge.
Always edit from internal drives and not from a USB drive.
USB drives are for storage not for editing.
If you want to use an external drive get one with a e-sata connection.

2. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 14, 2011 1:30 PM (in response to Ann Bens)Thanks for the feedback Ann. Unforuntately I don't have an internet connection to my editing tower. I have downloaded the 5.0.3 update and dumped it to a flash drive. That will do the trick correct?
And believe me I hate editing from an external...but i'm limited on internal disk space and my strict IT department makes it diffiucult to get any kind of portable external drive, let alone to have a say in what kind of connections it might come with.
Thanks again,
Lindsay

3. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Colin Brougham Sep 14, 2011 1:38 PM (in response to lbsimpson)Each update is inclusive of all updates before. You can go from 5.0.0 to 5.0.3 (or 5.0.4, on a Mac) without the need to install anything in between. The in-application updater will do just that if you should happen to refresh from the ground up.

4. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 14, 2011 1:41 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)THanks for clarifying Colin. I will go ahead update via 5.0.3 transferred on a flash drive.

5. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Kevin-Monahan Sep 14, 2011 2:17 PM (in response to lbsimpson)I would go with the 5.0.4 update.

6. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 14, 2011 2:23 PM (in response to Kevin-Monahan)Is 5.0.4 available for PC or Mac only? I'm working on a PC based system.

7. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Colin Brougham Sep 14, 2011 2:26 PM (in response to lbsimpson)5.0.4 is Mac only. 5.0.3 is as far as you can go on a PC.

8. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Kevin-Monahan Sep 14, 2011 2:28 PM (in response to lbsimpson)Yes, Windows only requires the 5.0.3 update. 5.0.4 is Mac only.

10. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 16, 2011 9:28 AM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Hi everyone,
Thanks again for all of the input. I was able to find access to an ethernet cable and first attempted the updates via Bridge>Help>Updates. I de-selected only a couple of options before clicking 'update' and letting the updater do its thing. I let myself be fooled into thinking the first estimated time, represented the entire update, not just the invididual component update. Once I realized the update would require much longer htan I first anticipated, I choose to cancel the update and save it for a time when it would be more efficient in my workflow to do so. This turned out to be even more time consuming than allowing the update to run to completion! I returned to the updating procedure the next day workign from home and connected to the internet via ethernet cable again. I attempted the Bridge>Help>Updates workflow again, and recieved the message attached.I had my suspcisions that being the work station in question (a laptop) has admin restrictions from our IT department, I thought perhaps that was causing the hang-up. Though I was able to sucessfully initiate the update procedure via an internet connection at our HQ building (the attempt which I manually cancelled)...making me think there was a larger issue, perhaps caused by my pre-emptive canceling of the update procedure the day before.
I had already downloaded hte PPro, AE and AME updates and had the ZIP files waiting on a flash drive. I went ahead and tried to update PPro using the downloaded update and received the error message in the 2nd attachment. This reinforced my thought the cancelled update caused some sort of glitch.
Where do I go now? Will this reuqire a re-install of the entire suite? Or is there some way to reset the updater like deleting application preferences? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I would love to get my system running smoothly again asap

11. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2011 9:34 AM (in response to lbsimpson)Unfortunately, a botched update is usually bad news, and means that you're in for an uninstall/reinstall PAR-TAY.
Here's a recent thread with similar issues, and a resolution: How to re-install an update ??

12. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 16, 2011 10:01 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Thanks Colin I had a feeling that is what I was in for...Another quick question on a somewhat unrelated note...My IT department orginally installed my software suite, and now as I go back to collect the discs to reinstall it appears the original installer misplaced the 3rd disc. Is there anyway to order a replacement disc?
Thanks,

13. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2011 10:16 AM (in response to lbsimpson)I don't know, unfortunately. I'd suggest calling Sales; the "Store" button at the top of this site should help you locate a number to call. I'm sure they've got back-stock of old versions, but they'll be able to assist you best.

Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2011 10:34 AM (in response to lbsimpson)Just found this: Obtain replacement product CDs, DVDs, manuals
I think the first part is going to be a bit of bad news You were looking to upgrade to CS5.5, right?

16. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 16, 2011 12:23 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Well hehe you are correct I suppose I may be looking to upgrade! I only wish purchases at my organization didn't require so much red tape, and of course the CS5 purchase was made shortly before the CS5.5 release...
But thanks for pointing me to the necessary info nonetheless

17. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 19, 2011 11:46 AM (in response to lbsimpson)Just a quick update. I have sucessfully uninstalled/reinstalled the production suite cs5, and have the update running through Bridge right now. So I should be back in business shortly, and hopefully things are lagging like they were.
Have a great day and thanks to everyone who provided input on this matter

Colin Brougham Sep 19, 2011 11:48 AM (in response to lbsimpson)hopefully things are lagging like they were.
Let's hope not!
Out of curiosity: how did you address the missing disc situation?

19. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 19, 2011 12:02 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)haha I did mean I hope things are NOT lagging as they were! And I'm trying to get my hands on an eSATA drive to help speed things along as well.
As for the disc...luckily one of my IT gurus here had saved a downloaded CS5 install package on their server. I was able to sucessfully reinstall using that package. Otherwise...I might have been begging to borrow the 3rd app. disc....
Have a great day.

20. Re: Latest CS5 Update include all update fixes?
lbsimpson Sep 19, 2011 12:40 PM (in response to lbsimpson)Okay well I've got the update installed sucessfully for the entire CS5 suite, but now...how do I get the software to recognize my Main Concept Codec Suite plug-in again? It is required to serve as the Default Player in PPro to handle our Ikegami media. The Main Concept plug-in was left untouched during the CS5 suite uninstall/reinstall and I assumed it would recognize it's presence automatically once the software was reinstalled and updated, but not luck yet. They only option available in PPro Preferences for Playback in the drop down menu is "Adobe Player." I have tried refreshing the codec settings in Main Concept, closing PPro and restarting the computer with no luck. Thoughts?
