Eric Addison Sep 16, 2011 12:12 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)Thanks, Colin. While that may help id what the clips are, I'm still wondering - are there flavors of Prores that QT on Windows and PPro won't open up? I was under the impression that all ProRes files would play back on Windows, and PPro would be able to edit with them.

Colin Brougham Sep 16, 2011 12:28 PM (in response to Eric Addison)I haven't had problems with any ProRes files, but that's exactly my point: I suspect these aren't ProRes files.

JSS1138 Sep 16, 2011 3:28 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)They might be AIC files, which will not play in Windows.

lewisfilms Sep 17, 2011 10:25 PM (in response to Colin Brougham)How does one acquire the Prores codecs on windows (or even mac for that matter) if one doesn't have FCP installed on the machine already?

Eric Addison Sep 17, 2011 11:11 PM (in response to lewisfilms)Okay - first...when did the forums change over?
Second - here's a new wrinkle...I have a friend with FCP convert some of the files to ProRes 422, and on his older Windows machine, they play fine. On my older Vista laptop (with iTunes), the play fine. On my Win7 laptop, no dice. I added QT to the Win7 laptop...no dice. The only other difference from the Win7 laptop and the Vista laptop is one is 64bit and the other is 32bit. Could it be a QT issue with Win7 and being 64 bit?
This is why I hate Apple...I really, really do.

Yes... I don't have any links saved since I don't edit those files, but I have seen previous discussion about CS5/5.5 needing 64bit codecs

9. Re: Question about importing ProRes into PPro w/Windows
Eric Addison Sep 18, 2011 8:37 AM (in response to JSS1138)So, here's an update. Late last night, I tried importing the QT files that wouldn't open on my Win7 laptop into AE (on the Win7 laptop), and low and behold - they imported fine. Then tried in PPro, came in fine. Tried playing back in QT player - now they play fine.
I have no idea what's going on, but it looks like the files now work. I'll be sure and report back anything else I find.
