Is there evidence that it's better to create TOC books with links to topics vs. having them just open to show the topics below? I like linking them, but I can see where it causes problems if someone is trying to get back to that topic and doesn't see it in the TOC. Should I have the first topic be the same as the one that the book is linked to, just in case?
Thanks, Josh

Hi Josh
My own viewpoint goes like this. *IF* one ever chooses to implement the Book with Link feature, it should operate as follows:
Create a topic that is used to briefly describe the section the Book is about. Inside this topic, create links to the pages inside the book. One way I like to automate this is by using SeeAlso keywords and SeeAlso controls to sort of automate the process. That way I create the topic page once and forget it exists. I simply make sure I remember to associate any new topic page with the proper SeeAlso keyword.
Cheers... Rick

Keep in mind that if you link a book to a topic and add the topic itself, then in printed documentation you will need to remove the topic in the print layout, otherwise you will get the topic twice.

It's kind of sounding like something we shouldn't be doing. I guess if people are used to Winhelp, which rarely has linked books, then the same would be true for webhelp.
