1. Re: Better playback of AVCHD in CS 5.5?
Colin Brougham Sep 22, 2011 10:01 AM (in response to Xoomtell)As of 5.5.1, it's decent. Better hardware makes the editing experience better, ultimately, but the last update has made editing such material incrementally better.

Andrey V Sep 22, 2011 12:58 PM (in response to Xoomtell)I am editing AVCHD 1920x1080 in CS5.0 and never had problems with playback or disolves. Perhaps you need to update driver for video card or get better video card

4. Re: Better playback of AVCHD in CS 5.5?
Xoomtell Sep 22, 2011 3:27 PM (in response to Andrey V)Nope - I have the Nvidia FX3800 and latest driver. It plays nice raw, but if you take a clip - divide it into two parts and make a crossdisolve between them - it stutters during playback - even without effects or anything. If I add just a simple effect it does not playback smoothly.
Wonder if a Blackmagic device could help in any way? Not sure I really understand what these BM gizmos are capable of? One could get the impression that they make it possible to playback smoothly AVCHD in 19020x1080 50/60P realtime with lots of effects etc. - am I wrong?

6. Re: Better playback of AVCHD in CS 5.5?
Andrey V Sep 23, 2011 11:50 AM (in response to Xoomtell)Well I will tell you this. I have Nvidea GTX470 (overclocked), and I have editing in CS5.5, 4 AVCHD cams, and was able to playback all of the edited footage without problems. However when I started adding a levels filter (which is not mercury accelerated), on the top of color correction, then I started having playback freezes in abut of 2min of playing. But I knew that was video card redraw problem I changed playback res to half and it started playing everything just like it should.
And my pc is not that supper setup, it has 24gb of ram and discs for video storage are in Raid 0
So I think it is still due to video card and maybe not enough HDD speed.
