So I have Windows Vista Basic Home, I tried updating my Flash version in firefox because it was out of date, but everytime it start downloading it , then I get the a message that says "Error " Appliation in use."  I uninstalled it and followed all the suggestions on the websites nothing is working. I even  uninstall google chrome thinking it was the problem but I'm still having that problem so I really don't know what to do because now the only place Flash player is installed seems to be Google chrome that I had to redoawload, but everywhere else tells me that I need to install it.

After uninstalling, can you go into your c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash folder and list out the files in there?  If you OS is 64 bit, then you'll need to look in C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash.

Thanks,

Chris

Try using the uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html - make sure no browser is running during that time.

Did that remove NPSWF32.dll ?

it sounds like fiefox is running in the background while your attempting a flash player install.  try saving the file locally, meaning save the installer to your desktop or similar.  quit all appications and make sure your, via task manager, firefox application is not running.  if firefox.exe is listed in the running process, quit or force quit the app.  when you know that firefox is no longer open, double click the installer and follow the prompts.
