Hi - I am having great difficulty getting the new update to install.

Running XP with IE8.

After being prompted to install the update I then went onto Facebook and was promted to install the update to flash.

I thought it had already installed, but it was on a back window waiting for me to click.

I ran all the boxes as I should and then it downloaded and said it was installing, then stopped and said that it was unable to register.

Tried uninstalling all the old versions and rebooting, disabling firewalls, anti virus etc but still goes back to the same point as unable to register.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you running the installer as an Administrator user?

If not, please login as Administrator and run it, or right-click on the installer and select Run as Administrator.

If yes, please follow the instructions in this tech note http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/494/cpsid_49419.html

Could you post back with your installer log?

Where do I find the Flash Player installation log on Windows?

You might also want to do a clean install to see if that helps:

1. Download the stand alone uninstaller

2. Close all your browser windows

3. Run the uninstaller

4. Restart your computer

5. Delete the following folder, depending on your operating system type:

  • Windows 32bit - c:\Windows\system32\macromed
  • Windows 64bit - c:\windows\syswow64\macromed

6. Download and install Flash Player located here:

Thanks,

Chris

Yes I am running it as an administrator.

I didnt proceed with those instructions as it said that it is not required for Flash Player 10 and above, but I will do that now and post my results.

Thanks

Thank you very much - that all seems to have worked, only problem is that it installed the google toolbar and I wasnt given the option to remove it.

It doesnt seem to be in the control panel either!

That shouldn't happen if you used the download links that Chris posted earlier.
