1. Re: How do I adjust bitrate when outputting from AE -Apple ProRes422?
Rick Gerard Oct 12, 2011 7:07 AM (in response to jl2000)ProRez is like DV. The bitrate is set by the codec. There are different bitrates for the different ProRez formats. Here's the data. Your spec looks like ProRez 422 Proxy. I've never used that version because it's so low. I'd give Comcast a call.

I'm going crazy over this - clicking all over the place. I'll call them and let you know what happens.

They also request interlace/bottom first - which I also found in the settings.
I'm going to guess this spot is standard definition. If it's not, the field order is wrong.
If it's the 720p flavor of HD, there is no field order; it should be 59.94 complete frames/sec.
If it's the 1080 flavor of HD, it should be interlaced as upper field first.

Rick Gerard Oct 12, 2011 9:26 AM (in response to Dave LaRonde)At the data rate they are suggestiong I'm assuming SD.

Dave LaRonde Oct 12, 2011 9:32 AM (in response to Rick Gerard)I assume it's SD too, but it doesn't hurt to double-check.
The OP may have the wrong delivery specs if it's actually HD.

I rendered out a version with Apple ProRes422 Proxy and the quality was extremely low. I can't imagine that being OK for TV. I emailed CC about my quandry because I was confused about inconsistencies between the OWC spec sheet and the FTP upload instructions. They sent me another copy of the OWC spec sheet (that seems to be the standard response). So last night, out of frustration, I skipped ProRes in the spec sheet and went to the last column, rendered out an H264 version, and uploaded it. At least I got the upload right because I got the confirming email. If the output doesn't pass muster I'm sure I'll hear about it. Stay tuned.

You'll probably hear about it. These folks apparently want the ProRes 422 codec, not the H.264 codec. You have to understand that ProRes codecs come in a variety of flavors. In decreasing order of quality they are:
ProRes 4444
ProRes HQ
ProRes 422
ProRes LT
Prores Proxy
If the H.264 file slips through, write back. We'll stay tuned.

After confirming the upload of the H264 version to Comcast I never heard another peep out of them. The spots were sprinkled around on CNN and History. I never caught it myself but my customer said it looked great.
Whew!
Actually I wasn't really worried knowing that you guys were hanging out here.
Thanks for your help.

...and thanks for writing back. Sadly, few do.
So Comcast accepts high-quality H.264's, huh? Good to know.
