Unable to Use "Printer Manages Color"

    Joe@Moomtaj Community Member

CS5 does not let me print using the printer color management engine.  I set “Printer Manages Colors” and turn on ICM in the printer settings dialog box.  But when I OK the dialog box the color handling option in CS5 reverts to “Photoshop Manages Colors” and the ICM in the printer settings dialog box is set to “Off (no color adjustment)”. Any suggestions?

Could be a permissions problem. Check that you have full administrative priviliges for the printer settings and full access to the color profile folder...

Try going through the configuration settings twice in a row and see if the changes stick.

Yes, there are problems like that with some printer drivers.  They're sometimes reported as "wrong copy count" failures.

Thanks. I am logged on as administrator. Permissions are set to allow all operations.

@ Noel Carboni . Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure how to set the Printer Settings twice in a row.  Clicking OK closes the dialog box and reset the color handling to "Printer Manages Colors". There is no Apply button in the dialog box.

I'm not sure I'm following exactly what dialog boxes you're clicking in, nor whether what I said is applicablle, but I do recall a number of people posting here when Photoshop CS5 was released that with Photoshop's print dialog and certain printers, it actually took two runs through the very same configuration changes to get the settings to be remembered.

I have an Epson R3000 (and Photoshop CS5) and was having the same issue: I would select "Printer Manages Colors" in the Color Handling option of the Photoshop Print dialogue. I then click Print Settings to set the Epson printer driver options. After clicking OK (or even Cancel), the Color Handling option in the Photoshop Print dialogue always reverts back to "Photoshop Manages Colors".

Here is the workaround I discovered: After selecting "Printer Manages Colors", click "Done", which will close the Photoshop Print dialogue. Then, re-open the dialogue (File > Print) and go to Print Settings to set the Epson driver options. "Printer Manages Colors" should now remain selected when returning to the Photoshop Print dialogue.

From what I can tell, this will correct the issue until you next print with "Photoshop Manages Colors", when it will go back to the behavior described above, where the Color Handling option always reverts to "Photoshop Manages Colors" when closing the printer driver settings window.
