1. Re: odd behavior with photos
joe bloe premiere Oct 26, 2011 6:27 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)Open the image file in Photoshop, and re-save.
This will rewrite the header, and Premiere will no longer be confused.
I think there is a batch process for that... maybe someone will chime in.

lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 6:30 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)While you were answering me (so quickly, by the way), I was doing what you asked me to do. I know how to batch save in Photoshop. Is there a way to batch process from PPro? I realize that I have about 600 images with possibly 200 with this issue. Did my client do something odd while saving? What's going on here?
Thanks so much.

3. Re: odd behavior with photos
Colin Brougham Oct 26, 2011 6:46 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)It's a bug in CS5, that (AFAIK) is fixed in CS5.5. Does't have anything to do with the images, necessarily, but the way Pr accesses them.
Instead of isolating the 200-ish that are "broken," you could probably just batch the whole bunch of them much faster in Ps.

4. Re: odd behavior with photos
joe bloe premiere Oct 26, 2011 6:51 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)I'm not really a Ps guy, but as I understand it the best workaround is
to unlink all of the image files in Premiere and exit, then batch open and save
all the images using Ps, then open Premiere and relink the images.

5. Re: odd behavior with photos
Colin Brougham Oct 26, 2011 6:54 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Shouldn't be any need to unlink/relink. Premiere Pro doesn't lock files (at least not images).

joe bloe premiere Oct 26, 2011 6:56 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Could you describe the batch open/save process in Ps?

7. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 7:04 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)It's really easy to batch process in Photoshop. I don't have time right now to go through the steps. There are some terrific ones on youtube (as well as adobe support). I found an easy to follow one:

Good luck and thanks for your help.

Colin Brougham Oct 26, 2011 7:05 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)Not much of a batch guy, myself Basically, you just record and play back an Action. I think you can play them back from Bridge, too.
Dunno--I always end up going to the Help documents for this process

I can confirm that this bug is fixed in Premiere Pro CS5.5.

10. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 8:22 AM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Terrific, any fixes for us CS5 folks? I own the master collection and don't really see the need to spend all those $ just for this fix.

12. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 8:33 AM (in response to joe bloe premiere)$550.00 for me to upgrade, when I upgraded to CS5 fairly recently - not going to do it and I don't really think that it's fair. My question is, does adobe have a fix for CS5?

13. Re: odd behavior with photos
Colin Brougham Oct 26, 2011 8:36 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)No, not for this issue. CS5.5 is the fix.

14. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 9:59 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Seriously, for me, a $550.00 FIX? As a big advocate of Adobe's products, I am officially disapointed with the company.

15. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 10:06 AM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)Todd,
Is it true that the only fix for me, as an owner of the master collection, is to purchase a $550.00 upgrade?

16. Re: odd behavior with photos
Colin Brougham Oct 26, 2011 10:18 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)Yep, or you can use the (relatively painless) workaround already outlined. That's "free."
Unpleasant as it is, CS5 is an EOL product line. Bugs don't always get worked out in lifecycle of a piece of software. CS5.5 isn't perfect, either; that has and will have bugs that won't get fixed until CSNext. So it goes.
Anyway, no one is forcing you to pay for a $550 "fix."

17. Re: odd behavior with photos
Todd_Kopriva Oct 26, 2011 10:19 AM (in response to lisaellensegal)You have a workaround for CS5.
We can't roll every fix into every version that we've previously shipped. We do issue bug-fix updates for major bugs for previous versions, but a bug with a relatively easy (automatable) workaround is not likely to get a retroactive fix.

18. Re: odd behavior with photos
lisaellensegal Oct 26, 2011 11:10 AM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)I appreciate your thoughtful response and I do understand, but for me, since I have already started my project, and I have about 600 images, the workaround is not so simple. I will batch save all of my images and hopefully all will be fine.
