Can't open ASCM file using ADE

I'm sorry if this is beating a dead horse and this has already been discussed - but I'm trying to open an ebook file just purchased.  It has the ".ascm" file extension and I understand that is the "key" to open the .pdf or .epub document.  I've installed the latest ADE but it won't open my .ascm file.  Nothing happens, I don't get an error message, just no file opening in my ADE.  Any advice please?  Thanks!

nevermind, thanks.  It opened up as long as I didn't have the ADE program already up and running.
