1. Re: Adding Round Corners to Rectangle
Monika Gause Oct 28, 2011 8:09 AM (in response to peterpica)Is there any way to add 1, 2 or 3 rounded corners to a box/rectangle in Ily?
You could use appearances for this task. demo file: http://illustrator.hilfdirselbst.ch/dokuwiki/tutorials/tipps_tricks/ecken_einzeln_abrunden
Or you could try the plug-in Vectorscribe.

Monika Gause Oct 28, 2011 8:49 AM (in response to peterpica)There's not so much info to read on that page anyway. Just download the ZIP and analyze the file.

Jesseham Oct 28, 2011 9:59 AM (in response to peterpica)There's a great set of scripts here: http://park12.wakwak.com/~shp/lc/et/en_aics_script.html including one that will "round any corner"
If you need help installing scripts - http://www.illustratorhints.com/2010/02/how-to-install-scripts/

Mike Gondek2 Oct 28, 2011 2:23 PM (in response to peterpica)A plug in can do that for you
http://www.astutegraphics.com/products/vectorscribe/
Otherwise you have to do this manually, looks like many steps but they go fast and you don't have to go to InDesignDraw a rectangle
copy
effect >> style rounded corners
expand appearance
with hollow too select and delete corners you do not want round round
paste the rectangle back, dlete what you do nto need, and join them together

JETalmage Oct 29, 2011 5:10 AM (in response to peterpica)Ridiculous, isn't it? With all of Illustrator's ballyhoo about "live effects," this program still can't handle the most basic and common "live effects" in this software category: live geometric primitives.
I'm not in front of CS5 right now. But now that Illustrator has at long last gained another decades-late ability--joining paths without having to tediously select endpoints--this routine should be recordable as an Action:
1. White Pointer: Select the corner anchorPoint(s) of the rectangle that you want to join.
2. Type something into the Notes field of the Attributes palette (ex: "RoundThis").
3. Edit>Cut.
4. Edit>PasteInFront.
5. Effect>Stylize>Round Corners (enter value in dialog)
6. Object>Expand Appearance.
7. (From Actions flyout menu) Select Object...[whose note has "RoundThis"]
8. Object>Path>Join. (Joins the two paths.)
9. Object>Path>Join. (Closes the path.)
10. Clear whatever you typed into the Notes field.
That Action should then work on a rectangle whether you select one, two, or three anchorPoints of a rectangle in step 1.
