Reader X and Outlook 2010 Quick Print

Since upgrading from Adobe Reader 9 to Reader X, the Outlook 2010 right-click>Quick Print function doesn't work as it did before on attached pdf documents.

With Reader 9, Quick Print would briefly open Reader, print the document, then close Reader. We could right-click>Quick Print several pdf attachments and all would print, once Reader opened.

Now, Quick Print does cause Reader X to open and print a single pdf attachment, but Reader doesn't close, and when then attempting to print more attachments nothing happens until Reader is closed. Then the next document will print. Each time Quick Printing another pdf doc, we must make sure Reader is closed or it won't print.

Uninstalling X and installing 9.x again solves the problem. Is there a way in X to get this functionality back the way it was in 9.x?

Thank you.

Similarly, printing a group of PDF documents saved in a Windows folder doesn't work, either, when right-click>Print. The first one will print, but only after a LONG wait. Maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Possibly another one will print after closing the Reader window, but I'm not sure. I may not have waited long enough.

Is this a bug with Reader X? It sure seems to be.

Hi,

My observation:

After quick print to 1st attachment file (PDF file) from outlook 2010-32bit system on Win7-32bit system, Reader X opens.

When for 2nd attachment or any attachment thereafter quick print command is given, that file also gets printed.

Yes but Reader X does not get closed until we ourselves close it but it's not restrciting any attached PDF document to get printed by right click-> quick print option.

Are you seeing the issue consistently. Also kindly tell your system configurations

Thanks.

Yes, your observation is correct... I'll clarify: With Reader 9.x we could right-click>Quick Print more than one document, the subsequent one are selected to print before the first one has yet printed... then all of them would print. When done, the reader windows can be closed.

With Reader X, each attached PDF document that is sent to Quick Print after the first one won't print until the reader window is closed, then the next one prints, close the window and another one prints, and so on and so on. And I should mention that it takes minutes before the Reader window opens and prints.

Even worse in Reader X is using the context menu's Print function from Windows Explorer. When right click>Print a PDF document that way, it may or may not print after a very long wait, possibly 10 minutes or longer... I didn't time it. If more than one PDF document is selected then right click>Print, no documents are printed after the first one FINALLY does print, even after closing the reader window.

With Reader 9.x, all of the selected documents would print rather quickly and then the reader window could be closed.

These results are consistent and repeatable.

The computers used to test this are HP dc5750 small form factor desktops, Windows XP SP3. The printer used is a networked HP LaserJet 4345 mfp. We tried other printers with the same result.

Edit, new info:

A new update to Reader X was installed today. Now when right-click>Quick Print the Reader window opens much faster... a matter of seconds rather than minutes now. Other than that, it is the same.

The Windows Explorer right-click>Print is just a bad as before.

Thank you.

We are getting exactly the same problem as described above.

Is there going to be a solution?

I have just upgraded all our users to Adobe Reader 10.1.1 and the fault still remains so called Adobe technical support as this is causing our users some difficulty.

They informed me that this new functionality is a result of the script being called in a different way to previous versions.

The request for the functionality to be changed back to same as version 9 will be passed to the developer team for consideration.

I'm having the same trouble with adobe acrobat reader 10.1.2, windows XP w/SP3 and Outlook 2010 w/SP1 - It's very annoying for the end user when they use quick print in outlook 2010.

Is there likely to be a fix?

@isgit614

That is interesting, since AFAIK the problem has been resolved for some months now. At least, Quick Print has been working well for myself and my coworkers.

We have the latest Reader 10.1.2 and Outlook 2010 SP1 with all current updates (14.0.6112.5000).

I spoke to Adobe about this back in October 2011 and they were going to have a think about it. Checking Adobe Reader 11.0.1 the issue is still there so I would say the chances of it being fixed are none.

Hi KiwiSimonM

Guess it is not that big an issue for most costumers then. Nothing we can do about it then.

Thanks for your reply.

Same problem here, but after updating from Reader XI 11.0.6 to 11.0.9.

Quick print on PDF in Outlook-attachement opens Acrobat Reader and the Adobe default printing window comes up, the file does not spools automatically.
