Noel Carboni Nov 2, 2011 5:46 AM (in response to dcacrobat)Yes, of course an Image Size operation can degrade your image - if you reduce the pixel count.
Always keep an eye on your pixel count (i.e., horizontal x vertical pixels). The short answer is: If all you're doing is trying to change the image size for printing, make sure you UNcheck the [ ] Resample Image checkbox when changing Image Size.
First and foremost your image is made up of pixels - small individual atomic elements of color that represent a small part of the image. The more pixels used to represent a given image, the more detailed the image can be because each pixel is tasked with representing a smaller part of it. You should go read up on pixels and how images are represented in computers to help you get better results with Photoshop.

dcacrobat Nov 3, 2011 12:00 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Much thanks for your accurate assesment. I now have a subsequent issue and seek your guidance. Have selected the clone tool =>selected brush=> the "alt" key produced a crosshair in a circle... releasing the alt key produces what is seen in the image. It is not the "brush" circle that would be expected. I would ask what this cursor represents. Seeking continued guidance on what error I've made. Will post to the general forum as well.

MTSTUNER Nov 3, 2011 12:37 AM (in response to dcacrobat)That usually happens if you have the Caps Lock on, if not that, check in photoshop under Edit>Preferences>Cursors and check those settings.
Did you use Image>Resize to downsample the image and if so what settings?
Just curious because if i downsample the image using any one of the bicubic options in the image size dialog to a size of 768x227 it's not all blurry.
