I can't install Flash Player

I have been trying to install Flash Player off and on since June when I have had time to worry about it. I have Vista Home Premium and Firefox, 32 bit. I get a message saying that I have "insufficient permissions". I am the only user and I am the administrator. Flash does not show in Control Panel but when I use the version information on the Adobe Website I am told that I have 10,2,152,26 installed. I downloaded installer and ran it but I am still getting the same results. Please help.

OK, this gives all information that I need.  Try the following:

  • go to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
  • from the links in that post download
    • the 32-bit uninstaller (save to disk)
    • the 32-bit installer(s) (save to disk)
  • close all browser windows, then run the downloaded uninstaller
  • restart Windows
  • go to C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash and delete any remaining files
  • now run the downloaded installer(s)

You may need to use Unlocker if you have troubles deleting some files in the Flash folder.

Can you please post the contents of the FlashInstall.log file from C:\Windows\system32\Maccromed\Flash, or put the file as an attachment to your post.

I cannot see any installer activity in that log since February 2011; it seems the installer aborted before it even opened the log file.

Can you try to download the installer from http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550 and save it to disk.  Then (after closing all browser windows) right click on it, and select 'Run as Administrator').

Sorry, I have been away for a week.

Can you try to run the downloaded installer again, running 'as administrator' as described in my previous post?

If you still get the same message, can you check the Event Viewer for the time when the installation failed, if there are any further information on what permissions exactly are insufficient?
