Hi All

I am making a recording of some slides in a captivate e learning course to be used as a demo for the course.  Please could someone tell me if its possible to get my recording to record roll over captions.  If I click on the roll over link rather than let the mouse just roll over it, in the recording it records the caption box but before the mouse path gets to it which gives an inaccurate picture of what happens, if I don't click anything then it doesn't record that I rolled my mouse over it.  I'm hoping its a setting somewhere.  I did try and add the captions as an image but then it doesn't show a mousepath aaaagggghhhhh!!!  Any help or hint would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, Janet

I'm confused by your description. Are you saying you have created a Captivate that you are playing back, and recording the Captivate you created using Captivate?

Cheers... Rick

Hi Rick

Sorry yes I have an e-learning course that I created in Captivate, I'm

now trying to create a Captivate recording of that course, which all

works great other than the roll over captions. Basically its a training

course that we sell, and the demo recording is just a snapshot of the

complete course for demo purposes to clients, we used to have a Camtasia

video but it was really slow and didn't always run.

What I'm actually recording is the published course like I'm a user, so

I'm trying to show how to navigate around the slides, how to use the

various interactions etc. Every other aspect works other than when I

roll my mouse over a roll over caption, although the box comes up on the

screen it doesn't show in the recording. I tried clicking on the box

instead which does then include it in the recording but the mouse path

is too slow so the box appears before I've clicked which is misleading

and looks weird.

Hope that helps, its really hard trying to describe what you're doing,

must make thinks difficult for you guys trying to help, so I really do

appreciate all you do.

Many thanks

Hi Janet,

Did you try switching manually to Full Motion Recording before the rollover captions? You do not tell which kind of capturing you are using: Automatic or FMR. In case you use the first, try to force manuall FMR at appropriate moments by using the shortcuts F9/F10.

Hi Lilibiri

These are the settings I used Sorry I've not tried to do a recording

before so I'm not really sure what does what. Are you saying I should

have full motion selected? Also when do I press F9/F10, do I do that

when I'm rolling over the caption area. Sorry to sound so thick, I'm

really new to all this and have had no training. Many thanks

Hi Janet,

Sorry to be confusing. No, I would choose Automatic, so that Captivate captures mostly static slides and switches to FMR for drag/drop. But before doing a rollover to show the rollover caption, use F9 to switch over to Full Motion Recording (be sure to set this in the Preferences, Recording, FMR to 32-bit to have better quality) to do a real video recording of that, and afterwards stop FMR to get back to normal capturing using F10.

I did not try it out, but let me know if it works, please? Try to avoid answering from your phone, because your coordinates are now public in the thread. You could ask Captiv8r to remove that, I do not have moderator power.

Aha, that'd do it, thank you so much. I was using a shortcut so although it new it was me online I wasn't logged in.  All becomes clear now how embarrassing.

Hi Lilybiri

I tried using F9 to record the roll over caption and F10 to turn it off again afterwards but it still didn't record it.  Any other ideas.  Below are the settings I have if that is any use.  I've not done this before so don't know if these are right or wrong.
