Bill Hunt Nov 11, 2011 4:03 PM (in response to robirdman1)What is your intended delivery format.
What is the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio) of your footage. 1280 x 720 is usually anamorphic, so will likely have a PAR = 1.3333. If the footage is not Square Pixels, then that could be part of the issue.
With DV NTSC, one has a choice of 0.9, or 1.2 PAR's.
Good luck,
Hunt

JSS1138 Nov 11, 2011 7:28 PM (in response to robirdman1)How do I get them to appear undistorted?
You have to tell your media player to play it that way. Most times it doesn't happen automatically.

shooternz Nov 11, 2011 10:03 PM (in response to robirdman1)Forget about the media player suggestion.
Here is how I do it from any HD source ( ie. from the edit sequence / timeline).
In AME I immediately go to the output tab after selecting .wmv, QT, flv ..whatever...
I choose a square pixel output. ( Very Important Step - do not choose a PAR apart from square!)
I unlock the proportional setting for the pixel dimesion so that I can vary it...then trial and error either, the Vertical or horizontal (depending on the particular output requirement) so as that I do not have any black bars on sides or top/bottoms showing in the "Output Tab"
That exported file will always play perfectly and correctly in any media player without compression or squeeze.
Only other step I use in this process : - Data Rate. (to control file size for various reasons)
FWIW: I have presets for a variety of these I regulalrly use ... but all are based on this process.

Except it won't go onto a DVD, and probably won't be accepted for broadcast. Square pixels are a valid option for web or computer playback (the preferred option even), but folks should know about the manual unsquishing for media that needs an NTSC or PAL defined ratio.

Yes but the problem is... the OP is attempting to use a DV Codec (DV) instead of something that suits his 16:9 footage (timeline). I do not believe he is particularly wanting it in a DV (SD) format.
Jim : I also dont think the OP was talking about broadcast or DVD in this instance.

8. Re: distorted movie file
Ann Bens Nov 12, 2011 2:26 PM (in response to shooternz)One could also set the crop proportions in the export settings to 16:9 if its for the web etc.
If its broadcast or dvd then export to mpeg2-dvd and not dv avi.

9. Re: distorted movie file
Bill Hunt Nov 13, 2011 10:47 AM (in response to Ann Bens)Oops - caught me. Should have been HDV Anamorphic 1440, which has a PAR - 1.333 (and not 1280. My bad).
Thanks for that correction,
Hunt

robirdman1 Nov 13, 2011 12:56 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)I want to put the videos on a DVD that can be played in common usages. According to the file properties, it says PAR is 1.0.

robirdman1 Nov 13, 2011 1:12 PM (in response to shooternz)I seem to be missing something. I have a sequence in the timeline. I choose FIle> Esport > media > Quicktime. There is an output tab to the right of source tab. I don't see anything about the PAR to choose.
