Yes, you should be looking for alternatives. Have a look at Adobe's new Edge: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/edge/ . It's an interesting tool for creating html/javascript/css based animation for use in HTML documents.
The only thing that you can be certain of is that the future will be different.

I invested a lot of time and money in learning Director/Lingo; Adobe abandoned it in favor of Flash, and I lived the slow death for several years. I then invested a lot more time and money in Flash/Action Script... here we go again.

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding it a bit difficult to trust Adobe, going forward? I'm starting to think that non-Adobe dev tools may be the best bet.
