1. Re: How do I change the colour of a PS frame?
MTSTUNER Nov 18, 2011 6:24 AM (in response to pinksigma99)If your using one of the Frames fom the Content panel, some have a stroke for color of the frame which can be changed by double clicking
on the small FX in the layers panel and then setting the stroke color. If that isn't the case maybe you could post a screenshot with your layers panel visible.

Mark Sand Nov 18, 2011 6:24 AM (in response to pinksigma99)Is your frame on a separate layer with transparent background? If so activate that layer and lock the transparent pixels in the layer before doing the Hue/Saturation change. Alternatively you can Ctrl-click the layer to select just the frame and then do the H/S adjustment.

3. Re: How do I change the colour of a PS frame?
hatstead Nov 18, 2011 6:36 AM (in response to pinksigma99)I tried to follow your work flow:
Dragged a frame from the content palette to the work area
Dragged photo from photo bin to fill the frame
Attempted to select the colored frame with the magic wand tool, then got a message that this is a smart object and is not
editable.
Bottom line, it does not work this way.
Try this:
- Open picture file
- Duplicate background layer, shut off visibility of the background layer by clicking on its eye icon
- Working on the background copy layer, go to Select>all
- Go to Edit>stroke. In this dialog you can set the width of the stroke (your frame) in pixels, the color to suit, position it inside.
- Go to Select>deselect
- Now, to take this further, you may wish to add a bevel:
- Open the Effects palette, select Bevels>simple inner, for example.
Double click the "f" on the layer in the layers palette to bring up the Style setting dialog to fine tune the bevel

I also want to create a text box / frame (with the christmas message) with a solid colour background (different to the main background) can anybody tell me how to do that?

5. Re: How do I change the colour of a PS frame?
photodrawken Nov 18, 2011 2:45 PM (in response to pinksigma99)In a nutshell, you have to simplify the frame layer and erase the interior.
Here are the steps:
- Create your background.
- Add a new layer:

- Drag the frame you want to use onto the editing surface. The frame will come in on its own layer:

- Simplify that frame layer:

- Choose the Magic Wand Tool and give it these settings:

- Click on the interior gray area of the frame with the Magic Wand to select it, and hit your Delete key:

- Switch to the Eraser Tool and erase the stuff that's left in the middle:

- Select the empty layer (Layer 1 in this example) and use File...Place to place your image on it. The layer name will change to the name of the image. Adjust the size and placement of the image. Your layers will now look like this:

- With the frame layer selected, add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer, making sure to "clip" it to the frame layer. Adjust the sliders to suit:
