For the last several days, I have been pulling my hair with ever increasing frustration as to why this stupid FlashPlayer update won't work.
I am running a new Asus laptop with Windows 7, 64-bit, Intel i5 processor, and I use both IE and Firefox.
My computer work perfectly, exactly as a new one should. Then one day, I went to YouTube, and it said I needed to update my software. I clicked the link, it took me to the Adobe website to update FlashPlayer, I downloaded it per instructions which are not new to me. And it didn't work. So I went back to the Adobe site and started trouble shooting. I've uninstalled the current FlashPlayer software from my computer and tried reinstalling. I've tried doing this and then rebooting my computer. I've tried downloading Adobe's uninstall software, downloading Flash again, then rebooting. I've tried disablling my internet security settings and turning off my anti-virus. I tried using IE as my browser. I tried using Firefox. I tried going through the plug-in update utility that Firefox offers. I've tried multiple combinations of all of the above. I even tried calling the Asus tech support to see if there was something on their end. The CSR and I quickly exhausted any further trouble shooting avenues she could think of. I have never had such a problem with this software on other computers and laptops I've owned and used. My brother's laptop installed the update just fine, and he can use video on the internet.
*bashing face on keyboard*
I am not a noob. When the limit of skills at my level of computer savvy is reached, there is something ridiculoulsy wrong on the software provider's end, and I am beyond annoyed. I did not choose for Adobe to have such a monopoly on internet video and imaging. If FlashPlayer doesn't work, there's almost no point to using the internet at all. Yet in order to get help over the phone to try and resolve this issue, I'm supposed to pay Adobe $40?!?! This is an outrage! I realize use of the internet is not the most important thing in life, but it is a large part of life in this culture and time period regardless, and I am very inconvenienced. I also feel angry about this because I feel like I'm being bullied. $40 for tech support? For a program that I am forced to use in order to access the internet properly? Ridiculous.
It is my belief at this point that there is an error or bug in this new version of Flash. I have never had any problems with this software before, and there's no reason why a practically brand new computer should have any trouble using it. I've tried every trick I can think of to get FlashPlayer to work. I challenge someone from Adobe to make me look like an idiot. Please. Humilliate me and tell me there's yet something simple that I'm not seeing. I welcome being told that I am in fact still a noob. Just get this stupid software issue fixed, so I can resume my pathetic introverted existence. Thank you.

Thank you so much for your reply and for trying to help. I did what you said, executed to the "T"....but no luck. It sounded like a good plan. I am now to that point of crazy where I'm getting calm....Anyhoo. The log is posted below.

Do you run the installer as an Administrator user? From the above it looks like there may be some registry permission problems (but not 100% sure; the log files are not very clear).
Can you also try something else? I am currently using Waterfox 8.0.1, which is the 64-bit version of Firefox 8.0.1, and I am very happy with it. Needless to say that the 64-bit Flash Player works very nicely on it. You can find it at http://waterfoxproj.sourceforge.net/

OK, this is kind of getting interesting, and my desire to problem solve hath been stoked. I tried downloading Waterfox. I had not heard of it before. I downloaded it, but when I went to use the program, I got an interesting message that reads:
"The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Could this lack of MSVCR100.dll be affecting my use of FlashPlayer as well? I have no idea what this, but I'm going to go research it right after typing this message.
Also, I am logged in as an Admin on my computer. I've had THAT problem before on a previous laptop. Oh boy, was it a pain!
Ok, going to research. Let me know if you've heard of it before, and again, thank you so much for time and invaluable input. It's nice feeling like I'm not alone.

Installing the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable should fix that problem: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=13523

*sigh* Okay. I tried researching this MSVCR100 thing, and I got bupkis. I tried following the steps to repair as found on this site: http://ac-web.org/forums/showthread.php?t=100155 And that didn't work. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash again just for kicks and grins, and it didn't work. I dunno. Let me know if you have anymore ideas; otherwise, I'll just take this piece of techno failure in for servicing. Thanks again.

Well crap!!! I don't know, when I had my computer worked on last year, no one could figure it out. I will keep thinking. Keep searching for a beta. Is there a customer service number or technical support email address for Adobe?

Not sure why you want a beta; this is usually a prerelease for developers. But: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer11-2.html
Remember: you must uninstall the currently installed Flash Player before installing the beta.

Waterfox FTW!!!!!
It works great. You were right. I'd never heard of it before. I think that should pretty much solve the problem for me. As long as the internets will work at optimum level, I'm satisfied enough simply using a different browser. Miffed. I am still miffed. *shakes finger at FlashPlayer* But I will take of your time no further. Thank you so much for your assistance Pat! I'm sorry for my snotty rude intial posting. Not proud of how I was talking, but thank you putting up with me. Have fun in Tokyo! I am thoroughly jealous. And thank you for your time and input!

There is a support number for Adobe, but they would charge $40 for the phone call. I didn't research very hard for an email, but I certainly did not immediately see one in any obvious place. BUT! I got Waterfox working as Pat suggested after I used his link to download a C++ Redistribute thingy. I've got video now when using Waterfox as my browser....AM SO HAPPY!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

So yeah, Pat's suggestion of using Waterfox, and his help in getting it working, have solved my problem. It's a browser akin to Firefox. I haven't fully researched the differences yet, but it looks and acts just like FF. Once I got a little software update out of the way, my comp utilized the new brower perfectly, AND it plays all video perfectly. I'm not sure why it works when IE and FF won't. But...solution found on my end. YAY!!!!!! Thank you for the hug earlier by the way and for your time in conversing about this with me. ^_^ I'm just so relieved that a solution hath been obtained! *dances*
Best,
Jennifer

Great that you get it working! However, I am not happy with the "solution" to replace one browser with the other. I would prefer to go all the way to have it work on Firefox as well. Are you willing to do a few more steps?
This is what I would like you to do (the parts in red are new from the original instructions):
If you cannot delete FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl, then try using Unlocker.

Anyway, I also need the FlashInstall.log file from C:\Windows\syswow64\Macromed\Flash.
Because currently Flash Player is not working in your 32-bit Firefox. As you probably know, Windows stores 32-bit programs in syswow64, and 64-bit programs in system32.

I am having this very same issue! I almost broke my computer about a year ago dealing with it. Last year when it happened, and after several torturous days and many people working on it trying to fix it, I ended up finding a beta version to install and the problem went away. Adobe wanted everyone to upgrade to 10.11 or something and I found a 10.3 beta version which worked wonders. Now that there is a new 11.whatever version, it won't work again and I haven't had luck finding a beta version yet. I feel my hatred towards technology returning. Please let me know if you find any working solutions and I will do the same.

Know how you feel. Technology is supposed to serve us. Right? Ugh. But I'm still researching and working on this with Pat who has been so kind as to respond to me. I have a lead that I'm going to research. I feel like a techno sleuth at the moment. ^_^ Anyhoo, great idea looking up a beta. I never would have thought of that. But it's still annoying. I want to know the answer as to what is going on. If this persists, and we are unable to solve the problem, I will take my computer back to where I got it to request assistance. If that doesn't work, then....computers just epic suck fail. (But I do NOT want to surrender!!!) I thought buying a new laptop would spare me all the problems I was having with my old one slowing down so much and causing me such a headache. I had to turn off the anti-virus on it just to use basic programs! *sigh* There really is no perfect computer, is there? I need a hug.

Well I guess last time's experience served me well this time. Upon researching beta versions, I came across a website for Microsoft Silverlight which apparently is very similar to Adobe Flash. Last week, an update box for Silverlight came up, but I clicked remind me later. So when I saw this, this time, I decided it was worth a shot, since there isn't a new beta version available yet. I installed the new version of silverlight, then reinstalled the new flash version, restarted my computer and voila - it worked!!! No hair lost, and the computer survives for a while longer anyway. I hope this works for you!!!! Good luck and hugs!!

I already have SilverLight on my laptop. And I checked, and it's all up to date.
