1. Re: Rendering 10x slower with media encoder than Premiere pro direct export
Jeff Bellune Nov 15, 2011 7:54 PM (in response to DVExpert)Do you have a CUDA card that can run hardware MPE? Are you scaling and/or deinterlacing the video on export? Do you have Maximum Render Quality checked?
If you answered yes to all 3 questions, then that's the answer to your question. AME CS5 uses software MPE for some operations (like scaling and deinterlacing) even if hardware MPE is available. Direct export from Pr uses hardware MPE for those same operations.

DVExpert Nov 17, 2011 10:18 PM (in response to Jeff Bellune)Hello Jeff,
thank you very much for the speedy response! I am very impressed
Your reply pointed me in the correct direction. In my case I had ticked Maximum Render which made the encoding 10x slower. The deinterlacing doesn't affect the speed much on our set up.
Anyhow, I unticked the Maximum Render Quality and it is now at full speed again. Lovely!
Thank you for your time.

Your source on that?

Although Steve didn't explicitly mention deinterlacing, I'm pretty sure that's part and parcel of the scaling process. Thoughts?
