Why does www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer offer version 10?

It's my normal practice before reinstalling flash Player to download the newest standalone uninstaller, plus the installers for the IE and Firefox version of the player.   I normally get the latter by visiting:  www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer   using Firefox and (for FF) downloading the suggested installer, then (for IE) revisiting that page, selecting 'different browser' and choosing the IE version.

Today when I go to this page (and whenever I follow a variety of 'get latest version' links from elsewhere on the Adobe site), I'm always taken to a page offering me version 10.3.183.11     But I've already got V11.0.1.152, so this can't possibly be the right new version for me,   And in any case, how can all these 'latest version' links offer a downlevel product?

I'm sure lots of people won't have noticed that the version being offered is not the version they actually want.

Why isn't www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer offering the right files?

www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer  take me to this page http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/.  Looks like you need to clear your browser cache.

Thanks for the idea, but I have done so several times.  It makes no difference.

Then, if you are still being directed to the the wrong version, you need to flush your DNS cache.

Thank you.  The machine was booted from scratch today; so far as I know that means that there won't be any stale DNS info cached.  The dns servers I'm using are those of openDNS.com.

Nevertheless I've tried issuing ipconfig /flushdns      I still get the wrong page.

???  Since the URL you are using sends me to the online installer but not you, you might want to query OpenDNS since I don't use that service.

Where can I find direct downloads of Flash Player 11 for Windows or Macintosh?

This is the alternative.

http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer automatically redirects me to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

I don't know why it doesn't redirect you; where did you find that URL in the first place?

Anyway, the link to the full installer that Carl posted is much better than the download manager on the official download page.

Ah, it /does/ redirect me to the same URL as you mention, but I'm then offered V10.

Where did I find the URL?  Don't know; I've been using it as the source for Flash installer downloads for several years, I think, based on my install notes for each release.

Suppose I go to: http://www.adobe.com/      On the righthand pane in the section entitled 'Download' Adobe Flash Player is the second item mentioned.  If I click on that - http://www.adobe.com/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH - I am then taken to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP  and it's offering V10.

Or suppose I go to: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/     Under the 'Downloads' subtitle in the 2nd column there's a large button offering a download' - and that goes to: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/   and that offers V10.

If I go to the page mentioned by Carl in the "Where can I find direct downloads..." question, then it suggests as the first place I should try, the "main page".  That offers me V10.

(I should make it quite clear that I do realise that the subsidiary links there /do/ actually start downloads of V11 installers.  The reason I started this thread is to try to find out why I'm being offered the wrong thing on the normal downloads pages.  If I am, chances are so are lots of other people.  I'm clued up with computers and software installs - having worked as a mainframe systems programmer for years - and /do/ look at version numbers.  But I'm sure lots of people do not.  Also being offered V10 when I expected V11 is a good indicator something is wrong, but I wouldn't realise there's a problem if I was offered V11.xxx when I should have been offered V11.yyy - and that worries me far more.)

openDNS's primary server (208.67.222.222) says that www.adobe.com is at: 192.150.16.64

You can see that from the dig tool (if you look for the 'A' record) at: http://www.geektools.com/digtool.php

Making the query using google's primary dns server at 8.8.8.8 provides the same answer.

If I go to http://192.150.16.64 and follow its download link: http://192.150.16.64/go/EN_US-H-GET-FLASH    I again get to a page that offers me V10.

What version is actually in the download when the Download now button is clicked?

Can you post a screenshot that shows how it offers you FP10?  I see only FP11 on all links that have been posted in this topic so far.

Could you do the following please.

  1. Go to this document: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html
  2. Scroll down to the paragraph called "Install in a firewall proxy server environment".
  3. Click the link to download the 32-bit version. You will see the description as shown in the screenshot.
  4. After the file downloads, right click it, go to Properties and then click the Version tab. It should show as the current version (other screenshot).

Try going to the main site at http://www.adobe.com and then click the link to "Adobe Flash Player". Do you still land on the older version site?

If you do, download a Firefox extension called Dr. Web Link Checker: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/drweb-anti-virus-link-checker/?src=search You might have a browser hijacker installed which is redirecting you to a malware site.

Do you still have the installation file for the version you have installed at the moment? If so, use the Adobe Flash uninstaller to remove it, reboot and then go to the normal download site and see what it offers you. If you still get 10x offered, you can reinstall the version you have already.

Speaking for myself though, your download link redirects me to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?promoid=BUIGP

As regards the Adobe IP adress you download from, there's more than one and you're likely to be directed to the one which has the most download capacity available.

There's another useful Firefox add-on you can install called Flagfox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flagfox/?src=ss Hover the mouse over the flag which appears in the URL location bar after you install it and it'll display the site's IP and location. Right click the flag and you can check the "Whois" for the site as well as other options (which you can also add to via the same menu).
