    "New" upgraded editing rig...

    davidbeisner2010 Community Member

I've just spent a little over $2k on software and hardware upgrades to my BOXX system... I'll post new benchmarks on PPBM5 over the next couple days when I'm done re-sorting my data across my drives.

      Here's my new setup:

      Intel i7-920 processor

      12GB RAM

      Windows 7 Professional x64

Adobe Master Collection CS5.5 with all updates

      nVidia GTX-285

Drives (all 7200RPM Enterprise level SATA):

      • 250GB OS/Programs
      • 500GB Graphics/Photos/Audio/Pagefile
      • 1TB Video Export/Encore projects
      • 2TB Raid-5 (3 1TB drives) PrPro and AE Projects/Scratch
      • 6TB Raid-5 (4 2TB drives) Video Data

I've also got a total of 7TB of external eSATA drives for backup purposes (4TB, 2TB, 1TB) and a single 400GB internal drive in an external eSATA connection for a secondary backup of active projects.

wow !  how cool is THAT ! ??

          sounds like my dream machine....

now let us know what you're gonna shoot with ( range of cameras if not just one workflow )....and export to...so we know how it worked out.

I know you like the built in levels and 3 color and secondary color stuff..but if you get into exporting for broadcast and telecine ... let us know whats happening as it happens.

I in particular want to know about breakout boxes from video card ( live shoot DIT station situation plus recording at same time 2 HD SDI from camera ( 444 ).. and how that gives you playback ( immediate on set ) with cc ( looks etc ) and the end result re: delivery to agency responsible for distribution internationally via pipelines.

Ha... you've described my dream scenario... too bad I'll never have the money here for a proper ingest card and cc station...

My primary camera is the JVC GY-HM700u, which shoots to the XDCAM-EX codec, so that's my primary workflow. I do also do a lot of work with RED ONE and RED EPIC footage, because we have an alumnus who owns both cameras and lives not too far away, so we hire him to come help us with big projects...

I've also got an XHA1 (HDV) and a cheap Sony AVCHD handycam, neither of which I use very much anymore, but which could show up as B and C cameras if I have to do a multicam shoot and can't rent another good camera...

            So that's my workflow.

thats cause you dont declare beer thirty as often as some of us do... or my space would look just as nice..

                    I noticed this high tech microphone holder...very cool !  ( called  " Mic N A Basket " )
