rcraighead Dec 8, 2011 12:45 PM (in response to ruthgordy)No. Illustrator looks at a compound group as a single path. You can cut the individual path, then paste-in-place and assign the rounded corner effect. You'll need to expand the effect before pasting the object back into the compound group, using "isolate selected object".
