I have Robohelp 8 on my computer. I won Technical Communication Suite 3, which includes RH9, in a raffle, and installed it in a new directory without removing RH8. Then I read that RH9 converts files to a new format that is not backward-compatible with RH8. This scared me, so I deactivated and uninstalled RH9 and all the other components of TCS3. RH8 remains on my computer, and I can launch it normally. But when I tried to open an existing HTML project, I got a message that the project is in a new format that RH8 can't read. So I unzipped a backup copy of the project, but got the same message with it too. I never opened the project in RH9, and I'm pretty sure I never even launched RH9 on my computer before uninstalling it. So what the heck is going on, and how can I go back to using RH8? I hope someone can help me!

Not sure why you would be skittish about using version 9, but whatever.
Try deleting the .CPD file of the project and it should then open in version 8 again. Of course, any feature that is only supported in 9 won't be understood in 8.

Rick, thank you very much for your answer. I feel bad about the trouble you
have taken, because after posting my question (which I did only after
trying to find an answer in the forum), your answer to today's "from RH8 to
RH9 but now to RH8 again" query turned up. I will try your solution and
then update my post.
I don't suppose you have any idea why the format would change on a project
that was never opened in RH9, and was not even opened while RH9 was on my
computer?
BTW, I was leery of irrevocably changing my project's format because (1)
other help authors who did not win RH9 in a raffle might need to
collaborate on it, and (2) I was not sure I would like RH9 and want to
stick with it.
Thanks again for your help!

Rick, thank you very much for your suggestion. It worked! Though I'm
mystified about how the problem arose, I am glad to have the solution.
Now if I could only figure out how to change "This question is not
answered" on my forum post to "answered".

You just click Correct Answer in the post that has the answer. I have done it for you.

Peter, thank you very much for your help. I promise you, I did not see any
"Correct Answer" button or link, and I looked hard for one. I can't show
you anymore on my post, but here's a screen shot of another post that has
not been marked "Correct Answer" yet. Where's the button? Could the problem
be that I am using Firefox (8.0)?
