1. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 14, 2011 10:59 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Why is it that transitions won't work?

2. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 14, 2011 11:01 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)The whole screen transitions, not just the clip.

3. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 14, 2011 11:02 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)What do you mean, "the whole screen transitions"? Do you mean you have several layers (titles, video, etc.) and you want them all to do that book page turn deal? If so, then nest that sequence in a new one and apply your transition there...

4. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 14, 2011 11:03 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)These three clips are on top of a title...

5. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 14, 2011 11:06 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Ok, so you want the clips AND title to have the same page turn effect? Then nest the sequence containing the three clips and title in a new sequence, and apply your transition there, where you want it... (you may just have one short sequence nested into a longer sequence).
OR
you want the clips to have the page turn effect over the title, without the title doing anything? Just apply the transition on the clips...
Short of jumping into After Effects I know of no way to do what you're asking for without using one of the transitions...

6. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 14, 2011 11:17 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)I'd like the three clips to independently appear to swing out and/or fold down (as they fade). The title will remain static. I tried applying the transitions to the clips, the whole screen is affected.

7. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
Bill Hunt Dec 14, 2011 11:21 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)You might need to do the Sequence in two steps. One would be just the three Video Tracks w/ Page Turn, and then Export that to be used in another Sequence above the Title?
Good luck,
Hunt

8. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 14, 2011 11:21 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Ok; some transitions (and I'm not sure why) affect all layers underneath of them (fade to black is one)... Can you put the title on top of the clips? That way it'll be above the transitions affecting all layers...
If you can't have the title on top of the transitions, then create a new sequence with your three clips on it, apply your transitions there, and then import that as a nested sequence where your three clips were in the original sequence... That way the transitions are affecting only the clips inside the nested timeline, and not the multiple tracks in your working sequence...
Make sense?

9. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 14, 2011 11:33 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)I suspect you're correct. I've attached a couple of frames, so you can see what happens (the clown has the transition applied). Just for your reference...

10. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 14, 2011 11:36 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Yep, I see what you're saying... I would definitely do all the pictures in one sequence, apply your transitions, and get them the way you want... (should be able to just copy/paste them from one to the other), then bring that sequence into a new one with your titles... should get you just what you want.

11. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 14, 2011 1:24 PM (in response to davidbeisner2010)I'm having difficulty getting a visual of all the pictures in one sequence. My understanding of a sequence is timeline(s) that contain one or more video clips. In order to have the transitions on one sequence, I'd have to put them on the same timeline - sequentially. This would not allow for simultaneous playback. Am I missing something?
I tried putting the title above everything else - no luck...

12. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
Bryan Chilcher Dec 14, 2011 2:07 PM (in response to DesignCBTs)Do you understand the concept of a nested sequence? If not, look at the HELP file and see if that helps.

14. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 16, 2011 10:36 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)So far, in the new sequence, I'm experiencing the same problem. It's the transition parameter itself. So, I'm back to doing what I want in AfterEffects. I appreciate the time you've all taken. Thanks!!

15. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 16, 2011 10:38 AM (in response to DesignCBTs)Have you learned how to do nested sequences? Cause I’m 99% positive you
could do what you want with nested sequences… if you’re having trouble
figuring it out, I can create a tutorial video for you…

16. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
davidbeisner2010 Dec 16, 2011 10:55 AM (in response to davidbeisner2010)Ok; I've just started playing with the page turn effects, and I think I see what your problem is... sorry I've not been getting the point!
You're not losing your title in the transition, because the transition truly isn't affecting the title... What the transition IS doing, however, is causing the entire screen of that layer to fold, including the alpha channel, rather than just the image itself (your image is scaled smaller than the frame size).
While you CAN do this effect the way you want in Premiere, it will require each image being on it's own sequence, with the sequence sized EXACTLY to the dimensions of the image... To acheive that, you'd drag the image to the new item icon, it will create a sequence sized properly for that image. Apply your transition (and an opacity fade as well if you want a fade to accompany the page turn), and then move on to your next image in the next sequence. Then, when you're ready to put the whole thing together, create your master sequence with your titles, etc. where you create your image animation (flying, etc.) and then instead of dropping the images on this sequence, you'll drop the sequences that contain the images. That should give you the result you're looking for.
It will get pretty complicated, but it may still be easier/faster than going through AE, especially if you're not fluent in AE...

17. Re: Trying to achieve "page turn" effects
DesignCBTs Dec 16, 2011 1:12 PM (in response to davidbeisner2010)You're correct. This is one reason I love these forums - I learn so much!! I'll be trying the sequence image size, probably tonight or tomorrow. Regardless of the outcome it's something new in my understanding of Premiere
