twenty_one Dec 20, 2011 3:32 AM (in response to Bingo888)1 Convert the Background layer into a floating layer by double-clicking it in the Layers panel.
2 Make mask (use the icon at the bottom of the panel, or Layer > Layer Mask)
3 Make gradient - make sure the mask thumbnail is active, not the image thumbnail.
4 Save to a format that supports transparency, which excludes jpeg.
